Default New Guy Here

Hey guys my name is Scott (or Clive on the forums) i am a 20 year old male in the military and i live about an hour east of Pensacola. I am looking into buying a 2004-2005 Xfire Blk, Stick, Limited with around 30K miles.

I have a few questions, is there a difference in the 2004 and 2005 models?

What's the biggest CON? I would imagine the $100 dollar oil changes or the blind spots.

- Thanks for reading, Scott

There was only one 2004 model - a coupe. It is comparable to the 2005 Limited Coupe except for a couple of very minor differences.

Biggest consistent complaints on the Forum would be (in addition to what you listed) are inability of many Chrysler dealerships to service this car properly and the lack of a spare tire.

Read through the forums - there are literally hundreds of 'what should I know about buying a Crossfire' threads as well as the entire spectrum of complaints and kudos.

IMHO, though, one of the best parts about owning a Crossfire is this Forum.

Hi Clive/Scott.
In 2004, only one model Crossfire was made - all coupes and basically fully loaded.
In 2005, their were 6 (technically 7) models - Base coupes and roadsters which came in black only with cloth seats.
There were also Limited coupes and roadsters with leather and many other goodies (basically like the '04 models, except now in roadster form).
Also, the SRT6 coupes and roadsters came out with supercharged engines, 4 colors only, auto trans only, etc.
There was a special edition too that was basically a base model roadster painted red with SRT6 wheels.

2006 models are the same without the SRT6 models though (plus there are a couple more colors for 2006).

all '04s are limited but it was not called that till '05.
in '04 the only options were:
auto or stick
summer or all season tires
and color.
everything else was standard in '04.
an '05 limited is pretty much the same.
the '05 base is a striped down version.
The roadster convertible was not available till '05
and the srt was '05.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys. So basically the 2004 model has all the bells and whistles, just like a 2005 Limited?

Here's my list of 3 Xfires:

1. '05 32k miles around $17,700 from non-dealer still 6 months with warrenty, Limited.

2. '04 32k miles around $16,500 also non-dealer but with extended warranty 7/70.

3. '04 28k miles around $17,000 from carmax under 3 year/30k warranty.

- Thanks again!

Since they are all so close in price, I'd take the '05 over the '04 just to have the one model year newer car.

Who knows 20 years from now the '04 may be worth more...
The '04 has a gloss silver center console and the '05 has a matte one.

~ my personal favorite item of the '04 is the self dimming mirror... love it.

'05 did without... an old school flip it yourself style.

Andrew is correct...the thing I miss the most is the auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Every vehicle that I've had for the past 15 years has had one, so it is just a TINY annoyance to reach up and flip it. And every time that I do, I have to wonder why??? With all of the other features that the car has to offer.

Anyway, I would check to see what TSBs have been performed on the vehicles...and also make sure that the cooling fan module recall has been accomplished (if required).

Really, hmm didn't know the 05's had the flip thing but yeah the auto dimming is a nice feature. I have an 04' 6 spd with about the same miles when I bought it and the only thing I would say the biggest CON is the lack of aftermarket parts for the vehicle, but I've come to realize you don't need much of a speed boost with this car as it's enjoyable to drive in stock form. Plus, with the 6 spd you have the power on tap simply by a downshift.

As Andrew has stated before "a black car is a full time job" but if you keep it clean they look awesome. If you by chance decide to buy one of them before the weekend of 3/16 we're having a Xfire get together with about 16 other members (maybe 17+), so feel free to join if you have that weekend free.

Does anyone know why the '05 didn't have the self dimming mirror?

I believe it was just to P^ss me off every time I flip it. Even my pickup has an auto-dimming mirror.

~ my guess... a way to save chrysler a few dollars...

a cut back on the base crossfire... and made it simplified across the board to produce one part instead of two.

Okay Scott, going all the way to Kenosha for an auto-dimming mirror is a bit much... LOL.

I would still get it from a dealer because if you find anything wrong with it within the time you sign the papers, they'll fix it (well most of the time). If you get it from a private seller, you get what you get.

I've actually had pretty good luck buying directly from individuals. I think most people are basically honest and if you ask the right questions, you can tell if something is being covered up. Besides, that person knows that you now know where they live...that is pretty powerful in itself.
