We have just taken delivery of an 06 Coup Limited. 3.2v6 with 5speed auto stick. In the first 700 miles it has only yielded 14 mpg. This is no where near the published range for this model of 21 to 28. Is this typical of this model or will it improve with breakin or is there something wrong with my car.

I have a 2004 coupe with the same engine and automatic. I get 23 mpg city ant 30 mpg hwy.

I got 28 to 30 all the time in my '04. You might want to have yours checked or take your foot off of the throttle once in a while.

I really don't understand the disparity in mileage we all have. We do some seem to do so much better than others?

I live in South Florida, flat terrain, usually warm to hot climate, etc. Assertive driving style at times, but usually relatively conservative. Slightly aggressive off the green light.

2005 Limited Coupe, AutoStick. Other than K&N air filters, stock all the way around.

I have averaged about 20 MPG with each new tank full almost the entire time I've owned my XF. This is both in the summer using the AC a lot, and in the winter when I rarely use it all. I almost never make it to 300 miles on a full tank driving exclusively around town.

On those few occasions when I've had to drive about 100-150 miles round-trip on the highways, along with the usual around town driving for the remainder of the tank... 23 MPG.

I almost wish I could just blow a full tank of gas on a LONG highway drive just to see what mileage I get under the best of circumstances, but it seems like a foolish way to spend $50 in gas and 4+ hours driving nowhere. And you know I'm gonna be going 80 mph the whole way, leaving me an unnecessary potential blue light candidate all the while.

I'll be honest, I expected (hoped for) better.

I get about 25 - 27 mpg but I drive a lot on the interstate and city highways on flat terrain.

I drove from LA to San Diego and tried to get the best gas mileage...I returned 32 MPG over 200 miles.

Over a tank full of mixed driving, my best is 28 MPG.

My USUAL MPG is about 20.

It will improve after breakin. Chill.

I look my first long drive to an event in Toronto a few months after I bought my Crossfire back in '03.

One 3 separate fills on a highway run, I kept a modest driving profile, keeping to posted limits and I made an average of 30 MPG.

Well you also have to understand that I have a 6 speed and I rev match just about every downshift, so my 20 MPG figure isn't a "normal" result per se.

It should get a lot better. My SRT gets 21 mpg combined city/hwy (30% hwy). Now that it's broken in I try not to baby it too much.

It's interesting, I'm a maniac behind the wheel, not that I'm a bad driver, I'm a good driver with a heavy foot and lightning like reflexes. I get an average of 24 MPG, city and highway. Highway is interesting as I normally drive well over the "posted" speed limit. :p The car handles great and I have great fun:D at 85 to 100 MPH, I have had it to 145 but only for a short time. It was a kick :) and was very easy to manage at that speed.

The notes aren't completed yet either but it includes mixed daily driving to work and business trips, 6 trackdays, a run to Germany, weekend test runs and other activities which skew the results, and like brhertel, all my down changes are accompanied by the appropriate throttle blip. Also note that my MPG is based on Imp galls not US galls. I will update it all properly when I get chance.

You all are braking the law. I never never go over the speed limit. I never squawk the tires at a light. I never go fast around corners. I always set a good example for my daughter. I never weave in and out of traffic. I never put the pedal to the floor. I never blow off those 350z's that think they are faster then my SRT6.

My '04 is lucky to get 20-21 mpg in the city and that happens on rare occasions. I don't typically drive it hard either. Most of the time I am getting around 19 mpg.

What type of Octane levels (Premium or Regular) are you running?

Do you run the A/C all the time?

Is your driving in city or highway?

Are you an aggressive, moderate, or casual driver (Peddle to the Metal Factor)?

And while break-in does yield some improvements to mileage, typically you will not see a 10 mpg gain happen overnight when you reach a certain mileage milestone (let's say 3K miles).

One more thing about MY 20 MPG average... I always use 93 octane.

And I still don't understand how some of you average over 25 MPG or even near 30.

I do believe you have obtained Step 1, however fibbing during confessions cost you 2 steps, so I believe that puts at a -1 with the rest of the highway heathens!

Keep trying, I'm sure that sooner or later you shall reach enlightenment!

However, should you still feel the need for speed, just "Kick Some ***" and forget about it! This is how you truly achieve level 12 young Grasshopper!

I get 25 to 28 in town unless the fun foot misbehaves if so it goes down a bunch. I get 30 to 34 HWY and usually that is at about 85 MPH.
