The following is an almost complete explanation of the vin#. The last six digits are assigned by the manufacturer as a sequence number.

5 Car Line N = Crossfire (LHD), P = Crossfire (RHD), 6 Series 6 = “S” Series
6 Export Transmission C = 6 Speed Manual (DED), E = 5 Speed Automatic (DGU)
7 Body Style 9 = Specialty Coupe
8 Engines L = 3.2L V6 SOHC 18 Valve
9 Check Digit See explanation in this section
10 Model Year 4 = Model Year

I was under the impression that the 6th digit was the trim code. 5=base, 6=Limited, 7=SRT
7th digit was the body style. 9=coupe, 5=roadster.
7th digit was the body style. 9=coupe, 5=roadster.
Only export models used position 6 for transmission identification. US models used position 6 for the series (there was only one in 2004). For 2005 there was the Base, Limited & SRT-6. Below is the 2004 model year vin info from the service manual.

Question:
"12 through 17 Sequence Number 6 Digit Sequential Number Assigned By Assembly Plant."
Does this number run in sequence from 000001 in 2004 thru xxxxxx in 2006/7 and does ones six digit number represent the total production number up to that vehicle?

I still don't understand why Crossfire VIN's begin with a "1".
I always thought that the first digit of the VIN was based upon the actual place of assembly, not based upon the country where the manufacturer was based.
