In response, I feel that Maxwell's contributions to this forum would become suddenly useless if he changed to "Guest". Thus, for the future integrity of all archived information on this forum, I voted No.
I don't see why he would want to delete his account... If he feels as though his privacy is being invaded, he can delete his personal contact information from the user CP... If he wants to change his user name, then he could probably re-sign using a different e-mail address and start fresh... If he is being harassed by other members and feels that he would not like to be a member of this forum any longer, or receive responses to his previous posts, he can block e-mails from this forum via his e-mail program...
PS: you should have not mentioned which member it was... Now we're all going to start RAZZING HIM
JK...
Now. Can I remove myself from this thread ?

PS: If he feels as though he has posted something that he is embarrassed about, or should be deleted, then he can do that via this program...
Now enough about that... I have a race car to build.

Due to the way PHPBB handles deleted accounts and their messages, I too voted "no".
The integrity of the discussions should be kept intact.
Perhaps a sticky can be put up to step through how a user can cancel all subscriptions and wipe out the information on the User CP so that the account becomes, for all intents and purposes, deleted.
The only additional step I might suggest is for the "subtitle" of the user, i.e. Forum Regular, Administrator, to be changed to "Dormant" or some such word to reflect the status that this user is no longer participating in the forum.
This can be done by an Administrator pretty easily on request and could prevent people from replying to an old thread or not-so-old thread and wondering why someone is being an **** and not responding.

I'm not being harassed by anyone nor am I embarrassed by my postings. I just don't see why I can't delete my account. On other web forums they allow you this feature. Besides I haven't really added anything to the site. I've just been a lurker.

Maxwell you say:

You have contributed 1,083 posts during your time here.
It's fine if you want to slip away, Just don't log in anymore and move on.

I voted NO.
Deleting his account might also delete any and all posts, which could then turn into a bunch of 'holes' in threads. One could be reading and then the thread won't make sense because the deleted posts aren't there.
I've left other forums, and just left. Never went back. Perhaps that's Maxwell's best plan of action ... don't act.

I also voted "no". Instead of deleting the account, would it be possible to lock it and then change the description from "Forum Regular" or "Senior Member" ot "Account Closed" or "No Longer Active" ?
