Default anyone tried using 5-40 synthetic on this car?

Anyone know of any problems using 5-40 oil in these cars? Given how much cheaper, and the fact you can get those gallon sized jugs of it, it would be nice if it works well. Does it mess with the FSS's head?

You must use a FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL. I know others have used 10W40 but I personally will only use MOBIL 1 0W40 as recommended in our owners manual. This oil is $6 a quart but you can safely go 7,500 miles when using it.

I agree to the point the full synthetic is the important thing because of all its benefits. I would then stick as close to the recommended weights as possible...but in the long run...I would very strongly doubt any problems whatsoever. Interesting article on synthetics at:

Don't know anything about the veracity of the site though....just my $.02.

An interesting synthetic oil study.

I just changed my oil in '04 crossfire. I used Rotella 5W 40 synthetic. Everything seems fine.

Truthfully the only reason you may need 0W-30 in that car is if you live in colder climates (freezing temps). 5W-40 should be fine for warmer climates or summer driving.

Keep in mind also that you are introducing extra pressure into your oiling system. Not severe, but some. You may also see your mileage go down ever so slightly as a heavier weight oil will induce some drag on the engine's reciprocating components.

Hope that helps.
