Default BAS/ESP service light

I think those are the correct letters that are showing on the dash. They are located in the instrument cluster on the right. Anyone had these lights come on, mine came on once, when I turned the car off and back on, the light did not come on again. Well, its been about two weeks, and the light is back on, although this time, turning the car on and off does not solve the problem, the light just comes back on in a few min. Light has something to do with traction control, because the little symbol in the dash is inop as well. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This has to do with the Stability programming. It probably needs to be recalibrated. You can do this yourself. Get in the car. Start The Engine. While in Park center the steering wheel. Now turn the steering wheel all the way to the left till it stops, them immediately turn it all the way to the right until it stops. This should calibrate the system. If the light doesn't go off after this procedure, then take it to the dealer.

It happened to me on a snow day. I spun the tires and fishtailed a bit coming out of the lot at work. That warning light came on as well the spoiler went up and wouldn't go down unless you put it down manually. I tried what NeverEnough suggested and it didn't reset. Came back from lunch and called the dealer and made an appointment. Came out to go home and it had reset itself. No problem since.
Good luck and let us know how you make out. Its always nice to find out how these issues are resolved.

My BAS/ESP light came on when accelerating and would turn off after restarting the engine. The problem per the dealer work invoice was a failed steering angle sensor.

Totally believable. The BAS works off steering input.

Ya know, I was getting the BAS/ESP light, intermittently and like you describe, about 2 weeks after I got my Xfire and I searched the forums here for an answer. I let it go on because I tested the systems by doing some hard braking (checking the Braking Assist System) and looking for the system to add some additional braking force: It worked as far as I could tell, and then I checked out the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) by putting the car through some exceptionally hard turns and I felt the brakes kick in to not allow the car to go into a slide so I think that worked. I hooked up a OBDII reader (port is just forward of the hood release) to the car (long cable on it taped to the underside of the dash while driving) to try to pull some codes and I got nothing. I think the car has to get used to your driving habits, strange as it seems. A couple weeks more driving after that and I haven't got a BAS/ESP light since. I don't like to say it, and I sure don't want to be wrong since it involves your stopping ability but drive it like you like for a while and I'll bet you quit seeing the light. If you still get the light and your stopping ability seems compromised, go see the dealer and get the codes (if any). If you get codes, please post them here, there are real experts on this forum that can interpret them better than me...Good luck with your problem and I hope it goes away by its self like mine did...

Feel free to use it if you want. I can't remember where it came from. I think I scanned it out of magazine or something.

Never Enough - Question for you. I read another post of your where it said you were doing donuts in a parking lot. Did that light come on when you did that? just curious as to what trips it. Mine has never come back on but when it did I fishtailed on slippery pavement.

A follow up on my follow up. Strangely enough my car did the same thing yesterday. Based on passed experience and what I've read I decided to wait a few days before calling the dealer for an appointment. I would not hesitate if the performance of the car or the braking were affected but neither was the case. The warning light and the spoiler were the only issues. I tried the reset last night, drove it this morning and all seems to be well. Either I have a short, the sending unit is getting ready to go or I don't know what? Just glad its gone for now.
