Ticking noise

I have an 05 Coupe, and when I fire it up it makes a i guess knocking noise... If you rev the engine you cant hear it, but if you let off and it goes back to idle you can hear it again... Anybody know what it is?

Thanks

Re: Ticking noise

Every Crossfire I have every heard run has what I would call a extremely loud valve train noise at idle. The initial cold startup is usually when it is the most noticeable, then is only noticeable at idle if you are listening to it and know what your are listening for. By the way some people can't hear it at idle my wife and kids say the can't hear anything. I suspect it is either a frequency thing or knowledge of what you are listening for or a combination of both. If the noise is only a slight ticking noise it's normal and nothing I believe you need to worry about but if it sounds like loud lifter noise as they are being mushroomed out then you have a issue that needs to be addresses. I think a lot of folks on this forum hear a noise then do a search and find all the symptoms of floating lifers and assume that there is an issue with their car when in fact it is just an extremely noisy engine.

Mine has a tick they so far found scarring inside the engine, my first '04 was quiet, no tick at all, you can pull close to the garage and hear how load it is. No way its normal, this was told to me by a crossfire tech and a chrysler enginner. They are loud but should not have a tick. :)

these suckers do have loud valve lifters ... nothing wrong with it just sounds crappy. my 2.0 dohc had loud lifters as they were solid hydraulic lifters then i put 2.4 hydraulic lifters in with a newly designed aeroator on the top and it was silent at idle ...

i've heard this engine in the ML and in the C class ... they all sound this way.

Mine makes a ticking noise when cold at first startup, but only for a few seconds, I guess till the oil pressure builds up, other than that it is quite.

Mine sounds like a time bomb.. the dealer stated that it was low of oil... they did the oil change, put more oil in it and still the ticking is still there.. .I guess i am wating for the engine to blow up for them to know there is a freaking problem.... these techs have no idea how to work on this car.... I am in Dallas, if anyone know's where I can go to get this fixed... please let me know, before it's too late.. thanks ak.

Go to a dealer, it will be covered under your powertrain warranty, I did not pay a penny for my new engine and it runs like new...........
