Unhappy Fuel Door

My check engine light came on again. So I checked the fuel door, and it will not stay closed. I pressed on the plunger and it came back up, tried to close the door, but it will not latch.

Even when I lock the car, any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks

Your engine light will not come on due to the door being open. If your gas cap is loose or off, then it will. the door will not.
As far as why your CEL is on, could be a couple hundredthings.

Andrew had told me when the Engine light came on, to check the fuel door. I did, and after taking the cap off a few times and closing the door, the Engine light went off.

The problem I am having, is that the door will NOT stay closed...any ideas?

Thanks

OK first:
The fuel DOOR will NOT cause an engine light.
The fuel CAP WILL cause an engine light

second:
You probably need the whole housing part# 5099987AA
I would consult your local parts department though.

Hello, is the doors unlocked when trying to close the door? Make sure they are unlocked because the lock pin would be sticking out and keeping the door frorm closing.

Good Luck,

Allan Nester

OK, Shawnkey,

Maybe I wrote it down wrong. Andrew had me check the gas cap, then drive the car a few times, and the engine light went off. Whew!

I will go out a try now what Aknester just mentioned.

And Shawnkey, thanks for your input, it really is appreciated...

(This has nothing to do with the check engine light, but it might explain why the fuel door doesn't close.)

Sometimes the "lanyard" that hooks the gas cap to the car gets twisted up a bit and when not folding down correctly it interferes with the hinge of the fuel door, making it so the fuel door doesn't close down all the way.

Thanks, I will go out and check that. Hope that does the trick if it lays out of the way of the closing.

Maybe you should put it in your sig.........................

"I am a Crossfire technician...........I MIGHT KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT"

something like that might help out a little.

Actually, with all the new members, everyday, that isn't a bad idea.
I know that I appreciate Shawnkey sharing his professional knowledge.

I had two Crossfire techs working on my car for 2 months for a failed seatbelt not fastened audible alarm. They replaced the instrument cluster, the computer module, the seatbelt switch, and ruined my interior and leather by puncturing and scratching things with tools, and finally gave the car back. Oh, and the audible alarm still doesn't work!

I'm sure shawnkey is better though because he actually has a crossfire.

Just put in your sig: " I am a Crossfire Tech. But, I'm not smarter than a fifth grader."

CGocifer,
Where did you bring your car. I need to stay away from them. Was it in NH or MA? You might want to post your bad experience on the New England forum. Don't forget to mention which dealer gave you the crappy service.
