Re: **Yet ANOTHER Shift **** Question**
I bought a Momo shift **** for mine last week. It fits pretty well.
Bought it from this guy:
http://stores.ebay.com/Crowders-Customizing
Since our ***** don't have buttons, they are easier to put aftermarket ones on.

The MB Retail is like $169.00, I paid $79 on eBay, but just sold my Coupe without it.
Anyways, what you need is an "MB/SLK fit", there are a lot in the Marketplace.

I don't know about the diameter part. The Momos come with different pieces to fit various cars.
Re: **Yet ANOTHER Shift **** Question**
Thanks! I finally purchased and installed my new shift ****! I will take pic soon and post; in the meantime this is the CLOSEST I could find on ebay. Big difference is mine is leather and chrome with crystals circling top and one dead in the center! I like it!

The top ball of the shifter has a collar at the bottom. That collar unscrews clockwise (looking down).
I actually wore a pair of light weight work gloves with the rubber grip fingers to turn the collar on the ****.
Once unscrewed, it slides down the shaft, and the ball pulls upward and off.
You may have to slightly twist it L&R while pulling up. Good luck , Gary
