Default Peeling Dash

Okay. I have read the thread on the peeling dash. And I also know that the dealer will replace the dash under warranty.

My issue is that i have an 04 coupe with 10,000 miles (not a lot), and the dash is peeling in several areas. The car is hence out of warranty and my only option is a repaint, but, it does not seem to be an average paint, it is rubbery.

anyone have any info on this? i.e.: what type of paint it is.

other than i am going to write to chrysler direct and have a ***** because even though the car is 4 years old it has hardly been driven and it i not good enough for this to be peeling ike it is. a little dissapointed actually (i bought the car second hand)

You do spray UV protector on it right? Of course its gonna crack and peal if you don't protect it from the harmful rays of the sun.

This is a known problem with the Mercedes, also. I suggest you go to MBWorld or one of the other MB sites, and log into the SLK320 Forum. Do a search. I recall reading a thread, a few years ago, about touch up paint being available for this, but not from Chrysler. Hope this helps.

I saw an old SLK at Carlisle and it looked god awful inside. I hope mine never gets that bad. I'm kinda glad I have the all black interior because it's less noticeable.

I found my forum post from Jul 2006 on this matter...here it is:

"Go to http://www.benzworld.org/ and scroll down to R170, this is the SLK 230/320 models of our cars. This problem has been on going with the MB line for many years. There are several threads covering repairs, to include one from Hong Kong where MB recovered the console in leather! There is also information on touch up paint. Hope this helps."

Remember, this is from an old thread, so search accordingly if you go to the MB forum. I signed into this MB forum and became a member. The folks were extremely nice and answered a lot of questions for me.
