Hey all, given the price of gas--hitting $4.24.9 for 93 octane here in CT, has anybody had any problems with getting their gas from BJ's? I know it's not a top tier supplier. Any concerns from anyone?

 

I haven't used it in the crossfire but I run it in my work vehicle with no problems. That is going around a 1000 miles a week so I burn a lot of gas. I don't use the crossfire that often so better gas is not a problem for me.

Hehe---I'll take that as 2 votes for BJ's, with caveats.

 

I burn it from time to time with no problems. But then I like to put a top tier in the tank about every fourth fill-up or throw in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner if I'm running a lot of generic fuel. The fuels I'm more concerned with are those with up to 10% ethanol marked on the pump. I wonder what the long term effects will be on our gaskets, hoses, and sensors since our vehicles are not E-85 engineered.

 

I've read lots of debates on this on other forums. General opinion is that most gas is dumped into common pipelines (you didn't think the majors had private pipelines for distribution, did you) where it goes to various distributors. The distributors put in the additives that differentiate Shell from Speedway. Not sure where the ethanol comes from. Anyway, gas is gas with the exception of the additives and, of course, the octane.

Yes.... Never a good idea to get one when you have gas.

 

Probably best to own the roadster in that event--for a few reasons.

 

i'm not familur with bj's but im assuming just generic gas in general. my experience with gas in my car is this. i drive 90miles a day in my car minumim. i've used most major top tier gasses, and a few generic's. i always recieve lower miliage from the top tier gases. i'm not sure if its the additive's and cleaners or what, but i fill up 90-95% of the time from a little marina gas station just outside the neighborhood and consistantly pull 27-30mpg with mixed driving. stores like shell, cheveron, and exxon, it will drop into the 25mpg range. i'll keep using the marina store. and no its not boat gas, just the name of the station.

 

I find that I get the most range out of Sunoco fuel. It's not that much more but I've noticed I can get more on my tank.

I'm a BJ's Wholesale Club member, but I never needed gas while I was there. Their closest store to me is roughly a 15 minute ride so it's not worth the trip to save 5 or 6 cents a gallon. If I was near empty and was at their store I would probably fill up.

Often times I would see a gas tanker filling up the tanks at BJ's. The owner's markings, I believe they are "JP Noonan", also fill side by side with Shell, Mobil/Exxon, and Sunoco at the tank farm at the Port of Providence. That further leads me to believe that all gas is the same except for those who add an additive into the tanker.

Also BJ's doesn't sell a mid grade in my area. They only have regular and premium.

Nowadays, brand loyalty is out and lower pricing is in.

I've used BJ"s on various occasions without any noticeable difference. Yesterday filled up there at $3.99/Gal then saw Walmart gas up the street for $3.95.

 

BJ's don't "make" gas so they must buy it on the spot market from any and all of the majors (esso, texaco, etc.). Their gas will be as good as anybody's.

Both absolutely true! For the most part, gas is gas; all pumped up the same pipeline(s), all pumped into the same tanks.......by grade, of course!

 

Locally produced & then shipped by tanker (which uses diesel) or rail (which uses diesel) to a distribution company. Our company just split ownership of a group of tanks used for Ethanol with another Eastern WI firm in Madison. Ours comes from wherever but mostly Iowa & of course, WI.
