Default Hi from newbie

Hi guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the community.
I am originally from Italy and I live in Las Vegas.
I currently drive an 08 GTI and I will be in the market for an additional vehicle shortly.
I was thinking about getting a 2 door RWD vehicle, nice and too expensive.
So far I have in mind the Crossfire and the 350Z.
Guys, what is your opinion about the Crossfire reliability (SRT or Limited)?
Is the auto trans. reliable or manual will be a better option?
I will be looking forward on reading the various threads.
Thanks again,

Fh

Welcome to the forum. Both trans are reliable, it is more personal preferance on what you want. If you like shifting go for it. The auto is a great trans. though.

These cars have there quirks but are really great running little beast. Have fun with which ever you chose.

Very dependable drivetrain. (Review the SLK 320 specs for example.) Oil changes are expensive, the M112 engine takes over 8 qts and has 12 spark plugs. "Best looking car I've ever seen", are the comments I get no matter where I go!!!

Welcome to the club! I am a recent member as well after choosing an SRT coupe over a Limited Roadster, a 350Z Roadster, and a few others.

Both engines and trannys in the Crossfire seems solid. Get an SRT if you want something stupid fast that can hang with a Vette or 911, get a Limited Roadster if you want a touring looker with a sports car soul. Even the non-SRT engine will let you have fun. It feels a whole lot more powerful than the numbers indicate. Its little sluggish off the line, but once you're moving you are rarely wanting for power.

From what I've read on reliability, there aren't that many serious issues. The things that do go wrong tend to be minor. When looking to buy one be sure to check under the rubber trim at the base of the doors and the rear hatch for rust. Some people have had issues with this, others have not.

Be prepard to receive a lot of attention when driving a Crossfire. In the couple weeks I've had mine I literally haven't stopped once where there were people around that I wasn't asked at least one question about it, usually to the tune of; "what is that?", "is that fast?", "can you get these at a dealership?", "can I sleep with you now?". OK, so I threw that last one in there, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Welcome to the Club!!! Got a few Xfire owners here in Vegas so you won't be alone. By the way Vegas owners...it's about time for a meet...maybe a few SoCal-Arizona-Utah owners would like to pop in for a weekend

You might want to read ths Road & Track article comparing the Crossfire SRT-6, Nismo 350Z and Boxster S:

Then compare prices.

Welcome aboard and I also have a GTI and bought the Xfire SRT-6 which has to be the best move I ever made, considering the rediculously low prices for these cars!

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the good info.

I will probably stop-by the Nissan and Chrysler this week-end so I can at least drive them and see how they are.
I am just concerned about the reliability of the tranny becasue Mercedes Benz have strong engines.
As far as the model, because I live in Vegas, I am not sure if I should get coupe or convertible. I have to see how they look
I would like a manual but the SRT 6 sounds real fast
I have already found 2 brand new 06 sitting at a dealership nearby. I would buy them just because a 2 year old car nevr used it is going to have issues.
I will let you know what I find...

Thanks again guys

Welcome to the forum, hope you choose the Crossfire - I too looked at the 350's - car felt cramped, as did the Boxer - have had the Crossfire for a year - no issues, no problems - And
It's as much fun as my old ALFA's (72 Berlina & 74 Spyder); corners better; a heck of alot faster; - and the best part is that IT WORKS not just when it wants but all the time.

I don't recall anyone on this forum (not saying that there isn't!) that has had tranny issues in their Crossfires.
I know some members who aren't overly thrilled with the manuals but since I don't own one I cannot talk for them.
The automatics are excellent pieces of engineering.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the inputs.
Tonight after work I went to test drove a 350Z because the dealer is close to work. I have to say that I was not really impressed with it.
I know that the interior is not the greatest but I wanted to hear and drive those 307 HP.
I have to say that it did not feel that fast. I think the engine lacks some elasticity at low RPM and I found myself going full throttle often.
Also, the seating position wasn't the best because you could not adjust the steering wheel in the y direction (do you say telescopic?) and I constatly hit my leg against the steering wheel while engaging the clutch. Also the seats (cloth) felt really cheap with respect of my GTI.
Also, from the inside you do not hear much that sweet sound that you actually hear from the outside.
Next in line will be the little crossfire.
I am afraid that my 2 liter turbo has spoiled me a bit and I might look into the SRT-6 as well.
I will keep you posetd.
BTW, can you adjust you steering weel in the crossfire?
Thanks

The crossfire steering wheel will only adjust in and out.

Hi guys,
So today I went and look at an 06 coupe and convertible auto.
I have to say that I did like the interior and the seating position of the vehicle. It was spacious enough ( I am 6.1) and also liked the trunk space (only bad thing is the absence of a spare).
It was dark gray with gray interior. It was an 06 with 80 miles.
The interior was well refined and the car felt solid. The AUTO was confortable and manual shifts were ok.
Now it comes the bad note: I was expecting a bit more punch. I think it probably had to do with the fact that the car was 2 years old and with only 80 miles. I did not like particularly the engine/exhaust note in the cabin. It was little to quiet.
So I will be looking for an SRT and manual next for a test drive.
Just as a side, I also went to see the Solstice and I found it to be cheap looking inside with a badly design capote system.
Thanks for the input guys.

I think you might be right... I might need something more quick than the std one... I will keep you posted because no SRT for sale in my area.
