Default intake

on the stock intake there are very crude check valves at the very begining, well really its under the beginning of the intake but part of that assembly, just wondering if anyine knew the reason behind having them there

You don't need them (well, lots of people have removed them).
Not convinced with the rain intrusion - I'm sure they just blow open even when you're going slow - even when it's raining.
