Default Tank On Empty

How many miles can you typically get out of the rest of the tank when the lights for low fuel comes on?

I had this situation a few months back. The fuel gage was below E and I still had about a gallon and a half I want to say.

Not generally a good idea. Depending on the design of the tank, fuel pick-up, pump and filter, you can ingest "crap" that normally doesn't reach the fuel system (particles, water, gerbils). Also not good to run the pump and injectors without fuel in them.

Highway driving, I normally get 380-400 before the light goes on. Then I look for a gas station. Calculated mileage 28.8 mpg.

My daughter drove my SRT back from Ft. myers last night. When I got in the car this morning and checked the gas it was a little over 1/2 and she had driven 160 miles. that is about 25 miles more than what I would have gotten. I guess if you drive 70 as opposed to 90, you get a lot better mpg. duh.
