Default Car died just going down the road! Eh?!

I was on my way to my office Monday morning and my '04 Crossfire Coupe suddenly stopped on me. It has since not started. I was accelerating from a red light with normal speed and suddenly I had no throttle and all dash indicators lit up. The car won't start, it doesn't even attempt to turn over (don't hear the starter clicking either). I unhooked the battery once AAA got it to my house, hooked it back up and still no dice. In the Accessory position everything works, the battery has decent charge and wouldn't start with a jump.

Anyone know any potential areas to look? What could cause this?

Thank you guys for your infinite help in my neverending world of Crossfire-woes.

Start with putting in a new battery! They can have shorts in them & spit out juice intermittently. I had a Vette battery die on me while it was idling/ putting in freon.

Sounds like the mystery no start issue.

Engine control module under the hood. Do some looking around it has happened to a lot of owners. Try giving it a rap and see if it starts.

Sounds like keeping a spare may not be a bad idea. Did anyone ever list the M.B. part number?

I've seen threads stating that the solution is a fuel pump relay and i've seen threads that say it is a crankshaft position sensor, I'm not sure what may indicate one or the other is the correct one? I'd like to shell out the money for both and replace both, but I'd hate to waste it. The part number I've found for the fuel pump relay is 5099007AA, but I don't have the crankshaft sensor part number.

As I understand it:

Fuel Pump Relay : Cranking starter, but no start.
Crankshaft Position Sensor: No cranking.

I know stogey knows the difference

See, I don't have a single thing that runs on the motor except the fan when I try to crank it. All of the interior components are working fine. So that implies that it is the cranking sensor? From what I read from the mystery no start issue thread, i thought it was the same thing as the fuel pump relay issue.

I could be wrong, but I believe the crank position sensor will allow the engine to turn over but not start. On the other hand the relay control module will not allow the engine to turn over.
ShawnKey ? where are ya ?

That's what I drew from the thread too Stogey. From what I understand, the fuel relay confuses the computer and causes it to think there is no fuel pressure therefore you get sudden stop and no start until it cools.

Just saw this problem on the forum yesterday. I'm gonna sound like guys' that have been here forever...but a quick search turned up the following.

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=27288

Has the part number you need and what it should cost you.
good luck with the fix!

Just for fun-

I've "repaired" a number of PCB mounted components over the years by doing exactly the same thing-just re-heating and re-distributing solder on apparently OK solder joints. There are a number of causes, but according to a former co-worker (SSB-Smart Summa Bi&ch), it's an oxide buildup on the cicuit board lands if they sit too long before assembly. If the manufacturer has a whole bunch of these boards made, then they solder them up piecemeal over the next 5 years, the ones soldered last have a higher failure rate than the ones used first. The solder looks as though it flows just fine, but has a poor mechanical bond with the silver on the board. Works for a while, but after some high-vibration use it breaks loose on a very micro scale and-problems start.

If I find this problem on my car, this is the first fix I'll try!

I was really happy to see it worked. We had an electrometer that we tested contact with on the board and had no connection, we dropped solder on it and voila, all kinds of beepin'.

I've got the same problem now. My Xfire was getting painted and the shop couldn't start the car. Somehow they got it started and I drove it home, but the next day it won't start and continues to not start. Its getting electiricity and everything operates but it won't crank. I keep hearing its the RCM so I just want to make sure when I get it or maybe it the crank sensor. Please help.
