New Owner!!!
Hi all,
My name is Dan and I've been lurking around the forums for about a year but waited to join until I bought one of these gems. I finally bought my Crossfire about two weeks ago. I drove it from Pittsburgh to Orlando and the drive was pure joy. I drove straight thru because I could not stop driving it!!!!!
So here is my story...sorry it's a little long....I have always like the Crossfire but never really had the urge to purchase one until about 2 yrs ago. I transferred with my job from PA to Orlando 2 yrs ago Nov 4th.
My roommates (longtime friends) and I had gone to dinner shortly after I moved down at Downtown Disney and when we came out there was a SSB Roadster parked next to us. I immediately fell in love and decided I wanted a Crossfire Roadster.
Normally I would have just gone out and bought one but I decided to wait a while. I had just moved to Florida and wanted to make sure I really liked it here before I bought a house. I kept my townhome in PA and rented it to friends just in case. While my roommates house is very nice it has no garage and thier cats love to get on the cars so I didn't want the top scratched to pieces. Worst of all thier house is in BFE so my daily work commute is 112 miles round trip!!!
I liked my Scion TC (black cherry Pearl 05) so I decided to keep it as a daily driver and buy a roadster as a weekend car when I decided I either liked Florida and bought a house or moved back to PA and live in my Townhome. So for the last 2 years everytime I saw a Crossfire I would foam at the mouth.
Two weeks again I was on vacation visiting Family and was drving with my father when he says "there's a Crossfire" It was siting in front of a dealership and even though it was a coupe I figured I could at least drive it since I never had driven one before.
Turns out it was just traded in and the owner was signing papers for a new sedan, I talked to him and turns out the Mrs was pregnant with twins so the car had to go. He bought it off lease with 12k and owned it for two years and put on another 17k. I took it for a test drive and knew right away it was going to be mine. It's an 04 Alabaster coupe with two-tone slate interior and had just turned 29k, tight as a drum, new tires and in great shape with no dents or paint chips. Just a tiny bit of wear on the drivers seat bolster, some road rash on the right front wheel and some minor micro scratches in the paint. (gives me an excuse to buy that porter cable!!!!)
The salesman said the price was 15500 to which I replied thanks but no thanks since I knew I could get one with less miles for less money. My father asked to see the dealership owner (turns out my father was his baseball coach in high school and co-signed for him on his first car!!!). So I got it for 500 over what they gave on trade. I decided after driving it to use it as a daily driver so I traded in my TC (05 with 107k but in great condition), got a good trade so wrote a check for the difference and it was mine.
I just need some opinions on an extended warranty? Since i'm the third owner and can't transfer the original warranty should I buy one? If so should I buy one from Chrysler or a 3rd party like carfax? It was obviously well cared for but I haven't bought a used car in years. Are there any known issues I should look for? You all seem well versed on issues so I welcome your opinions.
I'm now leaning towards buying a house so I can get closer to work. Once settled I think I may look for a nice roadster to keep her company!!!

Hi Dan, I just bought a left over 07 coupe today after spending much time researching these cars. I was in car sales for many years and can tell you that any dealership warranties are loaded with profit for the dealership, usually 40-50%. Warranty companies that are independent can be a bargain. Check them out and find out if your local garage will accept them or if you must pay out of pocket and then be reimbursed. I havent been able to put many miles on mine in a day, but I work in a female dominated profession (nurse) and the ladies at work think that I hit the lottery. Little do they know what a bargain a crossfire can be. Its as close to a Mercedes that I will ever get for 20K. regards Howard
I'm pushing 5 years and 45K miles into my dealer 7/70. Glad I spent the money. For me it has really reduced the worries about cost of ownership. But when it runs out it runs out. At that point I will have gone way beyond getting the goody out of it. A major repair at that point may just be a death sentence for the scooter, if I still have it.
My wise uncle the Mercedes tech told me when I bought mine...Its the closest you can get to a MB without getting a MB but its also the closest you can come to getting a MB repair bill without getting a MB repair bill... besides that... Congrats on the purchase...have fun with her
Congrats on the purchase, welcome to the forum. I would go with whatever warranty you can get people to accept in your area. I think getting one is worth it with the expense of the parts on these cars.
