Default Crossfire Dogzzz

Many people may scoff at the idea of hauling your pup around in the beloved Crossfire. However as college student and a frequent volunteer with a local pet adoption agency I have tossed around the idea of getting a dog. I know it may sound crazy, and for those who thinks so go ahead and keep your comments to yourself.

But what I want to know is are their any Crossfire owners out there who have a dog and from time to time haul it around in the car? How does it work out? And what problems do you have?

I have hauled two college aged girls around in my front seat on more times than I care to admit so I assume space wouldn't be an issue... I could see the hair driving me nuts possibly.

Any info would be great, thanks for humoring me!

Every once in awhile my wife takes our two dogs to the vet in her coupe when I can’t haul them in my truck. Except for one of them that tries to drive, it works out pretty well. We put towels down to protect the seat. You especially need to put a towel across the center console so their claws don’t scratch the silver paint. Fortunately, it's a very short trip to the vet.

You might also consider a cage in the back.

Hell if I ran into half a dozen that wanted a ride I'd figure out a way to fit them all in!

Oh the dog question. That's what my other cars are for!

You're right. I can't leave them stranded. I'd even sacrifice my lap if I ran out of space.

Be carefull of what kind of dog you tote around. I bought the Aero used and the previous owner had some kind of dog with short white hair. The trunk has lots of little tiny hairs stuck in it. I have been vaccuming and taping trying to get it all out. I have to pretty much pick out each feakin hair. The GF's Schnauzer dosent seem to cause this problem. No hairs.

I have a Cairn Terrier that loves to ride. The only precaution I take (and that was previously mentioned) is to put a towel over the console between the seats, as he does like to move from one side to the other. After about 5 minutes, he's asleep in my lap, which makes long trips extremely uncomfortable....for me.

I take my two little dogs all the time in my car. Got a beach towel, had my brother sew the top to curve it around the head rest part, so it will stay on the seat. Works really great. As for the dog coming over the console, one of mine kept trying to come over it and was shifting the car while I was stopped to get on the freeway. I went to merge and my car wouldn't move. I thought omg what happened! So now she sits on the floor and the other dog get's the seat Boy is he happy.....

I occasionally take my Golden (150#) with me somewhere. She loves having the top down!

Here she is when we went over to my buddies place........

We have two Chihuahua's and a Miniature Pinser that thinks he's the real thing.
They only get to ride in the car if there are a sufficient amount of towels on the seat. White hair is a PIA to get out of the carpet. Trick I use is one of those sticky lint rollers, that does a pretty good job and also works well for quick clean ups when you don't have time to vacuum.

Another great tip for removing hair and lint is a good rubber dishwashing glove.

Just rub the fabric and it will roll-up the hair into a ball. You can just rinse it off occasionally to help it "grab" the offending hair / lint a little better.

Also great for getting hair off your clothes!

I have a harness for my puppy (4 months / 40 lbs.!) that clips into the seatbelt receiver so he can't hop out when the top is down.

I've got a short adjustable leash attached to the child seat hook under the passenger seat . As it works out Missy has enough leed to be able to sit in the seat but not enough to get up on the center . A blanket helps with the hair . Missy is a Puggle and weighs about 30 lbs . Don't know how this would work on a larger dog .

As Usual, I have a stupid question.

If you have two college girls in the car with you, why are you even thinking about a dog or two?

If there is a dilemma here I would be more than happy to take the two gals in my roadster.

Just trying to help out.

2 shelties here, 1 likes to "ride" the other not so much.
Put a throw/towel on the seat, shorten the leash and loop on the seat belt ( to keep him from trying to drive, he believes he can, after all he's a Sheltie)

You're good to go,

Beagle/Basset mix is one of the xfires almost everyday. Yes I clean them inside almost weekly. In process of making a seat cushion/hair magnet for the pax side. Watch for them putting front paws on the arm rests as nails will put ripples in the plastic.

Aww...
All these dogs in XFs are adorable. But is it a crime to simply shave dogs clean of all hair? I think that would be a swift solution to the shedding problem
