Default '04 Crossfire accident

So i just got into my first accident and yes i was at fault. But here is the problem i was doing maybe 10-15 mph and i hit the back end of a minivan. all the damage is on the driver side in the front. From the plates over on the passenger side is perfectly fine except the grill. Well my passenger side airbag deployed but the driver side didn't. On top of that the driver side seatbelt locked up on me. So i was wandering if anyone else ran into this problem or could answer the question as to why if all the damage is on the driver side and the airbag went off on the passenger side do you think i could possibly have a car with the airbags sensors switched or whats going on with them. I am slightly lost on this and not veryhappy seeing as how if i was doin 60 and someone hit me head on doing 60 do you think i could have ate steering wheel? If anyone would like i can snap some pictures of it and upload them. Sorry i crashed it lol its an 04 coupe... kinda sucks seeing as how this is my baby. by the way the car is completely stock

Sorry to hear about your accident, thank god I never had an accident so I can't answer your air bag question, I have seen pictures of front end damage and bags not deployed.

I totaled my first xf, an 06, and it was mostly front / driver's side damage. My bag worked very well. (even knocked me out like it's suppose to)
From what I have seem and read one can't look at the damage on a car and determine which bag should have come out. The senors are a lot more complicated than that. If you sustained little or no injury, I would say that your bags worked perfectly.
Something as simple as last minute corrective steering is a major input in whether one , both, or no airbags deploy. Many don't seem to know that the airbag is excessively passive and is made to deploy as an absolute last resort. I'm sure there are systems that have problems as with anything mechanical and technical. However, the very nature of the systems makes them unpredictable. My new model has the knee bags on both sides and I frankly don't ever expect to see them.
Glad you are ok and I hope you can repair it well, if that is your desire.

Airbags are not meant to deploy under 11 mph so it's possible you were going less than that. In addition, since the car was able to know that your belt was buckled the computer probably didn't think that there was a need for the bag to go off as the seatbelt had locked up and done its job. The airbag may have gone off on the other side figuring that there was a passenger in that seat that wasn't buckled.

I was in the midst of a left turn going less than five miles per hour when I was hit by a car going forty-plus so I do think you could be sitting still parked and if just the right sensors go off the bags are going to pop. The whys and hows of the bags and other features were well explained to me with the auto and insurance people. Although it was totaled, I was very impressed with how well the car protected me.
BTW.......I do have photos posted here under my name
