Default Got Nailed

So, my XF has been under cover in the driveway since early December and this past Sunday I uncover it and take it out on the road and start driving it to work. It's a 23 mile drive and I can take either the highway or some nice back roads. I took the back roads going home.

Yesterday, I got nailed about a 1/2 mile from the county border. Rounding a curve I saw a deputy about 300 yards in front of me coming toward me and immediately hit the brakes. He pulled over to the side as I passed him - I was doing 70 in a 55 zone and slowed down to 60 when I passed him. He pulled out and chased me and hit his lights. I think it was a rookie deputy, there was another deputy with him who was probably supervising. So, he gave me a ticket. First one in 21 years. I wonder if he would have pulled me over if I had been driving my Kia instead.....

The cops hate our cars. I got my only 2 tickets in the crossfire. I was doing 11 and 12 MPH over the speed limit on the highway (the posted limit was 65 MPH). I was nice to the cop and even showed him my brother's badge and PBA card as proof (my brother is a cop in a different city). He was a motorcycle cop and I told him my brother is a motorcycle cop too. He didn't seem to care and did not give courtesy. Well, guess what.... they better not get pulled over by my brother Cop or no cop... anyone from their department will be written by my brother and he will tell them why.

I also got pulled over in morning rushhour traffic because I was entering on the highway in a merge lane at 2 MPH and didn't use a signal (even though a guy let me in). The cop was way behind me and took him a while to creep through traffic before he could pull me over. He gave me a warning for not using a signal to merge. The point is the crossfire is a cop magnet!

Just think of it as a Road Tax & we all deserve to pay much more often than we really do!

Yep, he nailed me at 70 and when he saw me that's exactly what I was doing. But, I had hit as high as 75 just before he saw me and in the past I've gone as fast as 90 on that road. So, it could have been worse.

Good point! Several times as I am out running errands, stopping for coffee and what have you. I find I am being shadowed, around the town I live in. The boys are either in love with my car, or just waiting for me to do something fun
What ever the case is, Crossfires get noticed.

I always find it comical that cops or relatives of cops think they "deserve" a break when they broke the law. Hell, if I was a cop I'd ticket everyone. They're there to enforce the laws not break them.

LOL !!! I know that feeling ! I live in a small suburb south of Austin and it hardly ever fails, the city and county cops fall in directly behind my lil red beast just seemingly waiting for me to screw up !!!
So far I've only received one invitation to the Austin Metro Policeman's Ball for 11 miles over the posted. Good thing they didn't clock me a mile further back up the road !

Not that I deserve to get away with breaking the law.... most of my friends and family are law enforcement and get upset when I expect a break. The problem is that certain police officers act like idiots writing tickets for 5 MPH over the speed limit. My brother is a highway patrol and sets the radar gun at 20 MPH over the speed limit. He won't write anyone unless they do more that 20 over. I don't deserve to be let go with a warning (and that is something he makes very clear). He is just not a fan of the nit-picking that some officers do. He is one of the nicer cops that gives breathing room for honest mistakes and is forgiving. Nothing wrong with that! But some police departments around where I live will write you for 2 MPH over the limit. I know people that had it happen to them.

Stogey... I am in San Antonio. The cops here are just as bad as Austin. The worst officers in the business. 11 MPH over on the highway is rediculous.

AIG--- I grew up in your area. I understand your frustration with people like me that have family in the police department. Why should we be allowed to break the law and get away with it when people like you don't have family in the police department. It kind of stinks that we have those "get out of jail free" cards.

Speaking of family that are cops, 20 years ago I had a built up 79 Malibu that was hot. My brother worked for a local police dept and one day he borrowed my Malibu while his car was in the shop. He worked in the police garage and had my car out back doing smokey burnouts for the cops in my car. I thought, great, every Vestal cop will be watching for a dark blue Malibu knowing what it is capable of doing.

By the title of the thread I thought you were going to say you were in an accident. I'm glad it was only a ticket.

Talking Re: Got Nailed

Not trying to start anything but I do feel it necessary to shake some of the Due off of the blossom. The police are being forced to start FUNDING their operations and traffic control is the profit cow to this end.

If they do not go out and make the ticket LEGALLY, then one or more of them are going to be laid off or furlowed due to lack of funding. In Va it is no different, I have in 10 miles Federal, State, COUNTY, TOWN, TOWN, PARK - Federal, TOWN - PARK, City, Plus goverment- CIA< FBI<SECRET SERVICE< and the ones that you done see, Thats a 6 mile radius.

Iam bigger into the tracks than ever before and Va does not even have a 1/4 mile that Iam aware of.................

Gotta be cool, they are there for us and they are under financial stress, sorta like the rest of us these days........

I used to dismiss threads like this, since no car can draw the police everywhere....well, I was wrong. While living in the DFW area, and after buying the XFire, in Jan 2005, I was stopped by State, County, and City police. No tickets. One verbal warning, one apology (he thought my registration was expired), and one written warning from the HP officer. Plus, several occasions of being followed by the unmarked traffic enforcement cars on I-35, while driving home.

I sold the XFire when we decided to move back North after I retired. I was concerned about the lack of technical experience and parts problems in the middle of fly over country, otherwise I would have kept her until the wheels fell off.

I bought a Mustang GT/CS, 5sp, Black/Black, and drove 1200 miles North two days later. No stops, no warnings, nothing. It has been two years now, and still no stops. Unbelievable. And, for that I would like to thank the XFire drivers who are keeping the police occupied as I drive by.

I live in a small town south of Kansas City. The local Chief of Police and I were both fueling up at the local truckstop. The only place to get Premium Fuel. He and I chatted about 15 min about my black Crossfire and I told him what time I got off work (4:00am at the time) and asked him to tell his troops to leave me alone. So far its worked.

Explains why the cops around here seem to be more visable and are actually pulling people over.
Just hope I don't get tagged!

The bad economy has nothing to do with the number of tickets they write. Just my honest opinion based on where I live. I don't think they are pressured to write more tickets than their usual quotas. Not to start a fight... but that is just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions.

As for the Crossfire.... police will deny it but I really think they are cop magnets. It doesn't matter how you drive. I had cops in front of me pull over just to let me pass so they could check me out and pull me over. I just have a normal factory 2005 base coupe. I baby the car and I don't drive crazy. I have been pulled over more times than in my Camaro.
