Default Carmax Crossfire

Hello Everyone--

So in my continued search for the perfect XF, today I strolled onto the Carmax lot, which was offering an '05 Aero Blue with 31k on the odometer for 14,5K. The outside of the car is immaculate. The blue paint is stunning, the Michelins all around are new and the interior is very, very good. I also found no rust underneath the doors. It's a one-owner car and it shows. The salesman then popped the hood to show the engine. Much to my surprise, there was a splash of oil present beneath the gasket, or what I've heard, no gasket on XFs, so that tells me that the epoxy used for sealant is obviously failing in a major way. Upon seeing this, I turned to the clerk and informed him that I was prepared to buy the car today, but that the "oil spill" was the deal breaker. He immediately drove it of the lot so the mechanics could look at it. We exchanged contact info, but I guess my question is, should I still take it for a drive once everything is straightened out, or should I forget about this one and continue looking elsewhere?

Thanks!

Monty

The only reason I would look else where is the price is too high.

They should also supply you with a carfax. So check it out before you make your decision. I bought mine from Carmax and couldn't be any happier. Good luck!

I've purchased 4 vehicles over the years thru CarMax and they always gave me the best of service. I think they still give you 3 days after purchase to bring it back if not satisfied. Squirrel Crusher

Well, I did receive a call back from the salesman and he stated that oil had spilled during a recent oil change. He also reported that the mechanic found no leak of any kind once they cleaned up the engine, so I may take a test drive tomorrow.
