WHO will fix the Crossfire???
As I understand it, Chrysler is on the ropes and will soon be out of business....many forum members have stated that Benz doesn't like to work on Crossfires....Then there is the dwindling supply of replacement parts for the Crossfire. I'm looking at a very nice example of one ('05 with only 2100 on the odometer) later in the week and will seriously consider buying, yet there are these concerns that continue to simmer on the back burner....Any thoughts?
Oh, one more thing...When Mr. Obama was in Germany he stated that 20% of the Crossfire (the American / Chrysler portion) was arrogant!

Car guys don't worry about s#|+ like that...
I have lived with several low production cars as daily drivers. One tends to get smart about which parts are high-maintenance and starts to have them on hand. One I owned was one of 1400 cars (1972 Volvo 1800E) and another one of less than 600 cars (1968 E-Type Jag). Once you've been there, you tend to feel pretty good knowing that there's several tens of thousands of cars more or less just like yours.
Then there's tools - this is a good time to pick up the special tools... That really makes a difference if you do your own work. The right tool for the job is EVERYTHING sometimes.
My Benz dealer is perfectly happy to work on my Crossfire though I have not really needed anything intense yet (just tire mouting and alignments). I would hope that engine things and to some extent, drive train things would be more or less familiar territory. The main thing I am still working to acquire is the diagnostic sensors. I think that might be worth having around some day...
I venture to say that I will be doing most of my own work on mine... Hoping it's not much more than routine replacement of wear items.

honestly mr. burns you have been on the board alot and stirred up heat on he SRT6 that was for sale.
regardless there are members on board who are willing to help out and we can borrow the "special tools" for a fee if need be or buy our own once dealers go under who are liquidating their sets
it is not chrysler who make the parts but other parts makers some are big enough to survive the time and be able to keep producing parts.
their is after market parts plus many parts from other mercedes will work
their is salvage yards and can cross reference parts like caliper from a 2008 clk550 MB
honestly you will be fine and be able to find the parts you need and extended warranties are backed by other companies.
what your issue is you do not have the ***** to step up and buy a crossfire.
thanks

There is a really good Mercedes dealership near me that knows all about the Crossfire/Mercedes relationship and is more than happy to work on the car. They may not do warranty work but they will do anything you want if you pay them. They have all the tools and I don't think Mercedes is going out of business anytime soon.
I wouldn't worry and buy the car. Enjoy it! It is an amazing machine! I don't care what anyone says.... the car is amazing!

I wouldn't worry at all. If it is under warranty if would be nice if you could take these cars to the MB dealer instead of the Chrysler dealer. If no warranty I would take it to any good independent Mercedes repair shop. As long as there are shops that service Mercedes, you will never have a problem getting it serviced. If you want to save money you could invest in tools and then use this forum for instructions to fix just about anything.
Where to get it fixed? I'm going to ppro's house!
Monty I am trying to make sense of what Obama said in Germany about the Crossfire? That statement is missing something, makes no sense the way its written.

Only that the feds would stand behind the warranties on new cars first sold after the announcement was made.
If you bought your Chrysler or GM before the bailout, based on how the plan is presented now, you will be on your own, in line with the other unsecured creditors.
I called Mercedes Benz and they wouldn't work on the Crossfire. I wouldn't worry about not being able to find parts. You can probably borrow several engine parts from similar Mercedes engines. Chrylser will always be around. Either someone will buy them or they will file chapter 11 bankruptcy.
You are 100 percent correct to avoid the future repair risks and just take a pass on the '05 or any other Crossfire for that matter.
