TTAC is reporting that Karmann has declared insolvency.

I wonder what this might mean for the Crossfire spare parts supply?

That is some sad news!

Karmann has been the producer of many fine autos over the years.

This may indeed effect some of the parts we may need.

Good find.

Wow, what a shock. Glad I got my 'Karmann" badges before they went down. Does make you wonder, between Chrysler and now Karmann, what will be the availibity of parts for the XFires.

Pretty good considering that neither Chrysler nor Karmann made the parts on our cars

Correct me if I am wrong... but I figure they will be back again when things pick up.

There will always be spare parts available. If there is a warehouse in Houston full of Delorean parts, there should be no problems getting spare Crossfire parts. AM I right or wrong?

If you consider a body panel to be a "part" then, yes, you are correct

Tools to make the "parts" are owned by the Auto manufacturers, in this case MB? or Chrysler?
There is always fiber glass I guess. Not the same but saves weight.

I believe you are correct. Besides, Chrysler isn't dead yet and it looks like Fiat is able to work things out. A windfall for them actually. The tooling, one would assume, should still be over there so maybe the body panels will come from Fiat/Chrysler.

Meanwhile, I'm trying not to bend anything.

I'm thinking it's time to write to Studebaker, Packard, Hudson, Plymouth, ******, Kaiser-Frazer, and Hupmobile... to see about some stickers and stuff... No wait - Rambler... Yeah that's it...

Karmann does not make the parts, they just assemble them. These cars are the same as a Mercedes, and if you order a part, it will arrive.

I wonder if the Karmann insolvency is part of the cause of the long backorder for certain Crossfire body parts?

Back Orders

Lack of parts
