Rims and potholes... how tough are they?
How do the Xfire rims hold up against potholes? The tires are very low profile, which would place a lot of stress on the rims if you hit a pothole.
Obviously nobody plans to hit them, but where I am (Buffalo) they are a fact of life, and some are just impossible to avoid. Especially at night when you may not see them until the last minute.
Thanks in advance!

I've accidently hit smaller potholes with the XF with no problems. I wouldn't want to hit the larger ones. I hit one last year with the low profiles on my Focus and wrecked a $175 tire.
I ran over a curb (complete butt head move) going 10 mph maybe out of a driveway. Cut the tire in two spots and bent the lip of the rim/wheel. Huge noise, members advised me that it was minor next too some of their's but it was the first boo-boo to our car. Crossfirefrank and msxfire hit pot holes on the way to the Dragon last year. She had to get a new tire, too dangerous to ride home that way. Franks tire guy balanced his by putting weights on the inside of the wheel. Somewhere I remember reading that there are more bent wheels than we know on these cars.
Bent the $hit out of my right front wheel last year on rock in the middle of the road (ask tighed1 about highway 92 sometime). Destroyed the tire and wheel, but amazingly the front end remained in perfect alignment. I guess the tire and wheel act as the sacrificial "fuse" to protect the more expensive parts.
I've had my crossfire since September 2003 and I've had 3 cracked rims 4 flat tires from potholes/rough roads. I've also had a couple of sidewalls bubbled by potholes. Besides my issues with tires/rims, the car has performed flawlessly...

unless you drive this i do not see you damaging potholes any time soon.
Yea, there is a whole thread committed to bent rims. There are always people posting something wrong with the wheels or tires. I believe the stock rims are pretty weak, advise getting aftermarket. Since you say your not going to be able to get past the inevitability of hitting a pothole then maybe get some 17" MB rims...
I whacked a pothole that took out both front tires (Pilot Sport PS/2). Much to my surprise, both rims were fine.
Not sure if the SRT rims differ in toughness from the NA rims, but I was definitely expecting both rims to be shot after the canyon I ran over on Delaware Ave in Philly.

Hit a bad one a few weeks back that took a 1 inch chunck out of the front right tire but thankfully no rim damage. I needed new fronts anyways so it was not that painful to the wallet.
I don't take the babies out until mid-April and by then most potholes are repaired -- or at least, cold patched. So far no problems in 4 summers and 32k miles with the roadster. Can't say the same for my winterbeater: 2003 Audi A6 has lost two tires after hitting potholes (well, one pothole for sure and the other time my wife was driving and has no f'in clue what she hit) but it sees 20k miles of hard driving through the winter. Both times rims were fortunately undamaged.
