Radio issue...

Anyone talked to their dealer about replacing/fixing the screen on the radio that one CANNOT see in the daylight? If so, what did they say?

Also, any news on adding XM Sat Radio??

decanio 07-19-2003 08:15 PM

Nope. Haven't tried complaining about that. This is one of my pet peeves. The other is the location of the cup holder. I keep causing the thing to open with my elbow resting on the center console.

texex91 07-19-2003 08:21 PM

I agree on the cup holder. But they can replace the radio, and quite frankly I think it's not too much to ask. No one can see the stations even. I went shopping today for a new stereo w/ XM built in. I only found 2 that are silver that would fit in--Chysler needs to fix the radio or replace it.

I added a Pioneer FM modulated XM radio and took the cup holder out and had the tuner placed there flush..it's not the optimum place but I am very familiar with the unit and have it programmed for my tastes..
I agree that the radio is impossible to see during the daylight hours..

Also, I opted to not replace the head unit..although some of the XM ready radios had "outs" for the little subs behind the seats. The best radio was an Alpine I think and the retail was $550 or so, without installation.

:?: Just curious--where did you mount the XM antenna?

gsopc 07-28-2003 12:55 PM

make sure you read Technical and Modifications pages all about radio problem

Just for your info, the headunits that have the outs for the subwoofers aren't really meant to power the ones behind the seats. In fact they can't power them at all. They are meant to go to an external amplifier to power the subwoofers, which you would have to buy seperately, because aftermarket headunits don't work with the amplifier supplied with the car.

Here is the sorry response I just received from DC:

Thanks for the email regarding the radio in your Chrysler Crossfire.

There are no current plans to alter the design of the radio in the
Crossfire. I have documented your concern and have passed your message
along to our engineering and quality departments. These are the areas
that review such concerns and the possible remedies for them.

Thanks again for the email.

The XM antenna is mounted on the rear window at the top and I can't see it at all when I'm driving the car.

Radio

After two e-mails here is customer service reply. The concern that you described is being investigated. However, at this time, it has been determined that this is a characteristic of the radio. please stay in touch with service dept of your chrysler dealership as if any updates become available, will we notify the dealership accordingly.... Well that makes me feel better, I guess there is no problem, I'll just turn the radio on at night or get a dark tint for the windows.

I thought the problem was only with the radio in my car. I was planning on contacting the dealer, thinking that there was something defective with the brightness of the screen during that day.

Now I find out from this forum that it the way these "great" radios are built. Why would anyone market a radio with such a dull illiminated screen?

Hopefully if enough owners complain, Chrysler will arrange to do "something" about the radio's display screen.
