Do I need to unplug any thing before removing the door panel?

Unplug the battery and allow to set for a few minutes, this will insure that you don't accidently deploy the air bag in the door !

Everyone says to disconnect the battery so the airbag doesn't accidentally go off. Not sure if that is true or not.

I've taken my door off many many times and never unplugged the battery. You need to disconnect the door pin by sliding it under the hole, and the tweeter by unclipping it. It's pretty obvious once you've gotten this far.

The tweeter is actually mounted on the door, and the speaker is mounted on the door frame, hence why you need to disconnect one and not the other.
