Question Newbie seeks advice -- problem areas to look for?

Hello all! I'm new to this site, but not similar sites for other makes/models. I'm a fairly experienced shade-tree mechanic, including on a BMW and lots of Mopars.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at a low-mileage Crossfire coupe, likely to buy it soon. I read on the site to look for rust under the doors, and elsewhere that the headlight surrounds may need replacing.

Other than normal issues (engine, trans, brakes, tires), any specific things to look at / test? Thanks!

Scan this site -- lot's of threads like yours. I'd check every control to make sure it works, especially the seat heaters which are prone to failure. Have them put it on a lift and inspect the underside. Drive it at highway speeds and make sure it tracks and brakes in a straight line. Find someone on the forum who lives near you who can go along as your own "personal consultant". Lot's of folks are willing to help out.

Thanks for the info -- went to see the car today. It's in great shape. Hopefully a done-deal soon!

All the info I've been reading here applied, thanks. Only the low headroom was a bit of a surprise. And that I couldn't figure out how to adjust the outside mirrors ... I assume they are powered?

WooHoo -- LugNut got the 2005 Crossfire Limited Coupe today!

The nice seller had to obtain a replacement title via two states (who wouldn't play nice together ...)

Via readings on this site, I have a backup camera and Panavise mount for the screen waiting for installation. Also, after evaluating the stock sound system more closely I have a couple of subwoofers in-stock to chose from if needed.

Over a long time-horizon I will be looking at other reversible modifications. One I'd consider is a replacement hood with a specific functional Mopar scoop. Know of any sources of such hoods? I can MIG-weld, paint, etc., so making a custom hood is a possibility.

Nickname for the XF is "der MiniCuda"!

Good luck with your new XF. I think you enjoy it and have fun with some mods.

You may want to look into dust-less brake pads since the OEM's make the wheel cleaning a lot of work.

I picked my XF up in May 09 and have meet some great people on this forum.

Jim
