Default Road Rage? What is up with the finger?

A pickup with a huge front deer grill was tailgating me on the interstate. Inches from my bumper and I was going about 10MPH over the speedlimit. I hit the brakes because there were slow people in front of me and we were all getting off at the exit. I hit them a little harder to wake him up so he doesn't wait until the last second and slam into my rear. He gets pissed and throws me the bird... then starts driving through the city looking for me so he could have a confrontation. Don't these people realise some of us legally carry guns in this state????

Personally I think the finger is childish! You must be really dumb to throw someone the bird...

I think that society has lost its mind....Growing financial worries, home foreclosures, divorce, custody battles, job loss, petty jealousy....These are a few examples of the high stress levels that people face today. It is a reality that unfortunately spills out onto the highway.....The best and safest bet is not to engage in confrontation. If I were in the same situation as you have described, then it would have been time to hit the right hand turn signal, drive to the side of the road, and allow the jackass to pass. I refuse to allow HIS problems and predictable psychosis to become mine.

Maybe he knew that his gun was bigger than yours.

If you're in the fast lane and someone is riding your butt, move over a lane and let them pass.

You aren't the state police, if you're going 10 mph over, you're going to have to move over for the guy who wants to do 11mph. End of story.

Also do NOT "wake up tailgaters" by hitting the brakes. If you did that in front of me, I'd be pissed as well!

I have to agree with Sonoronos, if you're in the fast lane and someone pulls up on your rear.....please move over ! Regardless whether you're 10mph over the speed limit or not.

I tend to do just the opposite when someone is on my rear.....brake slower and longer so that they know I'm stopping. Being right is not much fun if your car is mangled and in the shop for a month.

It's a law that you have to get out of the way of faster traffic. The left lane is the passing lane. I try to do it here, but most people just pass you to the right without using a blinker, even if you are signaling to move over. I love driving, but I hate driving with other people on the road.

If you REALLY want to set someone off who's pi$$ed, do what I do.

When you see someone give you the finger, Put on a giant smile and wave at them, smug in the knowledge that their day is ruined and you couldn't really care any less.

I've seen people go from 70% ticked off straight to 110% infuriated when I've done that.

I was in the right lane (there was about 5 lanes total). I never said I was in the fast lane. Usually if I am in the fast lane I am going way too fast! This time I was in the right lane waiting to exit. He was tailgating me and I was going fast until I came on to the exit where everyone in front of me was going slow.

You guys are right... people are crazy today. Then they wonder why they get shot!

I agree I woudn't slam the brakes and get hit. I also agree that if someone is wanting to go a little faster than you it is the polite thing to move over. But there is a difference between driving close and waiting for the person in front to change lanes and being a **** and riding your ***. For those who ride your *** I just let off the gas for a minute to slow down then punch it to create some distance.

If you really want to **** them off then just let off the gas until they decide to change lanes then punch it when they try to pass. Just make sure your gun is bigger than theirs.

You forgot to mention the suicides over job loss, etc. I see it here all the time. Some people don't think first, they just do. This could be a physical confrontation in terms of a fist fight or worse a knife/gun. To many of these loose cannons are out their. Sometimes it is hard for me to turn my back. I won't say what I would like to do and could do.
I want to be around for my family. I move on and b****h a couple of minutes until it's out of my system. Not worth ruining your day or your life.

I would never slam on the brakes.... let me clarify. It is what the police call a break check. I just hit the brakes and did a quick tap. I didn't stop short. Just enough to give him a warning that we are all going to stop and to back off a bit so I don't get rear ended.

There are a lot of left lane exits in Texas.... especially in Dallas

There are also lots of tailgaters in Texas!

This happened to be a right lane exit.
