Buying Xfire - What do I look for/What do I ask about?
Buying Xfire - What do I look for/What do I ask about?
Title says it.
I believe I am going to be purchasing a 2004 Crossfire w/ 79K highway miles on it.
I want to ask the guy some questions about the car, just not really sure what..
Is there anything in specific I should look for to be wrong with the car?
I'm going to try to talk him down to the lowest price possible..
Did you guys know that KBB value for private-party sales is $7,915?? That's insane! These are Awesome cars.
Thanks much

Yes we are all painfully aware of the selling prices of these cars. It's good if you don't have one and want one. Not so good if you have one to sell.
The latest list of common problems would be: broken seat heater; scuffed up/foggy head light lens; ignition key turning and rear hatch rattle.
If you can kick in another $1000-$1500 you should be able to cut the mileage in half. Lots of guys over 100K miles but it is not a given. The cost of ownership for these cars is high. If you are stretched with the purchase then you better keep your fingers crossed.
They are a fun ride. Good luck with your search.

I have heard of no move to dump these cars at a specific time or a specific mileage. Drive train problems have been low enough that no real trend has yet developed. The SRT guys have known issues but these do not relate to the NA versions. I think most people are just moving on. A lot of cars get turned over around the 3 or 4 year mark which may explain why the miliages look high.

You need to start checking over a larger area. Guys have giving well under 10 for cars with lots fewer miles. I've been driving mine for over 5 years and have 48K on the odo. I would be thrilled to think that someone would give me 9 for it. Sure he wants 10. Me too.

Well. what. the. hell.
So much for that car.
I have emailed the guy numerous times (3x) asking if the car had anything wrong with it. Didn't answer me.
He finally gave me the VIN.
I asked him on AIM what the deal was with the Crossfire and he blocked me!
I signed onto my old account and he was still signed on, so I know he blocked me.
Me:Aaron. Crossfire for sale anymore or not? I have someone coming to look at my car Sunday and I need to know if I am going to sell mine or keep it. Please let me know. Thanks.

It is so hard to have a deal slip away, but you may end up with a much better deal as a result or find that when all the considerations weigh in you will realize that it wasn't the car to purchase at this time. Our son wanted this specific moped so bad I wanted him to do research it and find it's actual value, not the asking price. That kid shocked me, the owner was told it was worth $850 by a collector, he asked $650, I figured his price was around $500. My kid said $200-$300 and really it's fair at $200. I about fell over, he didn't cave/buckle to the guy selling it (an adult) he went ahead and told him like it was. I looked over the moped and found some problems which neither one of them understood. The value kept falling every time we came around. Being tough now starts a habit that will serve you for ever and best of all YOU will have the money in your bank account not the other guy- good luck
Re: Buying Xfire - What do I look for/What do I ask about?
Don't get stuck on KBB...people could care less what the book says...see what mods have been added to the car, etc and hagle from there...KBB says mine is worth 21K, I wouldn't sell for 30K...with what it will do...if you are looking for a bargain, you will get one, along with the repairs...take your time, find one that was a 3rd car, weekend car, not a daily driver...headlights, foglights, tranny leak, seat heaters, are just a few TSB problems, that aren't fixed unless original warranty in effect...good luck, and if you are near Cicero, I would be glad to help...
