Thumps and rattles
I just took my XF into the dealer to have a couple small items checked before the warranty expires on the 19th.
There is a sheet metal buzz/rattle when at 2100-2200 RPM. It is a little annoying. It sounds like a loose or cracked heat shield.
My wife, bless her heart, didn't understand that the back hatch was more like an engine hood than the rear gate to a pacifica. She just grabbed the edge, pushed it down and BOOM!!! Nothing broke because I was sitting in the car when she did it the first time so I was able to tell her how to shut it properly. (BTW, I'm still a little deaf in my right ear.) But still, it knocked it out of adjustment. So when going over a larger bump, you can hear the hatch thump.
I will let you all know about the outcome of the buzz/rattle...

There's a TSB for replacing the latch so it grips correctly, or you can DIY by wrapping some electrical tape around the latch. I'm always yelling at my kids who slam the Audi and Crossfire doors like the old family minivan. A gentle push closes the doors and dropping the hood or trunk from about six inches results in a satisfactory click and close. The more you slam this stuff, the greater the likelihood of loosening up window tracks and electrical components.
I'm impressd that you all have been able to train your family members to gently close vehicle doors and hatches.
Apparently, mine are unable to learn.

Anywho, I just got the car back from the dealer and they said the rattle is from the muffler. Something came loose inside and is causing the rattle at 2100-2200 RPM. They have ordered a new one.
