HOW CAN PEOPLE BEAT on their Crossfire?
I was looking at Crossfire videos on youtube of people powerbreaking and doing donuts in the parking lot. I can understand having some fun in the snow but these people are doing it on dry pavement. Watching the videos makes me sick to my stomach... I just can't watch them! Yes.. I was a kid and did those things with old trans ams.... but how can people do it on such a beauty? Our cars are not crappy built American muscle cars. I can understand racing and getting on the engine once in a while. But powerbraking is the worst thing you can do to a car (so is dropping the clutch). Never in a million years would I subject my car to that torture
Maybe at 35 I am now considered old. Maybe if I was 21 I would be beating the hell out of my Crossfire. I love to go 120+ MPH and take off like a rocket once in a while.... but can't bring myself to powerbreak.

well lets see, its a car...
not some holy piece of metal thats supposed to be babied, worshiped, and praised.
I drift my car (i work for southeast drift) I do mountain runs and highway pulls. Im on my second set of tires inside 20k miles.
Just this morning on the way to class I did a highway pull with an ss camaro from 60-150 and put 3 buses on him.
I beat my car like a pimp beats his ******... It breaks, i'll fix it or buy another one.
its. just. a. car.

Beat and abuse are not words I'd use describing how I treat my car. It gets excellent care. However I drive it to the limit every chance I get. (legally and on a race track) I do threshold braking, turns on the edge of grip (sometimes surpassed) and full throttle sprints, all for 20 minutes at a time and for 60 minutes on Saturday's and 60 minutes on Sunday's. Then I give it lots of loving care and maintenance and think about how to make it faster. I replaced the original tires at 2,000 miles. How's that for proper use of tires! For me abusing a car is day to day use in the war zone (depending on where you work) where people hit your car or scratch it for kicks. Short trips and weeks or months without looking under the hood or giving the car a wash.

For shame...for shame.
thing is there are TransAm enthusiasts who can understand why people treat their f-bodies the way they do - each person wants something different out of their vehicle some like canning/racing it others just cruising... when all is said on done though it is just a (very good looking!!) car

there are several people who drag race there cars...burnouts, full throttle, etc... if you take good care of the car inbetween beatings, she'll take good care of you...
I'm also 35, and I probably run my car harder than most of the people on this forum.
Sure, I'm not sitting in a parking lot doing burnouts and donuts, nor am I staging at a set of lights for the 1/4 mile drag, but my car gets used in other ways, that put a huge smile on my face.
The mountain roads here in Colorado are fantastic for driving, both at a nice cruising pace to take in the scenery, or at a blistering pace to make the scenery go by at a pace that reminds you of the Star Trek Enterprise going to warp.
When you tire of mountain roads, you can drive to one of the several road course race tracks, and practice all sorts of extreme driving, living life on the edge of adhesion, and at times, sliding right past that limit.
The worst part is that at the track, you see other people driving really nice cars there, that are so afraid to push their cars anywhere near that limit, but you still respect them for coming out to the track, and enjoying their wonderful car in a safe manner at a pace they wouldn't dare drive it at in the city streets of Denver.
But, when things break on the car, I get to crawl under the car, and sort them out.
Its that bit of quality time that I truly enjoy spending on my car.
I don't have the spare money to spend adding carbon fiber this and chrome billet that to my car, but I do enjoy replacing a worn out part, and putting everything back into spec as quickly as I can.
Do I beat on my car?
Yes, I do.
Do I replace the parts that get worn out?
I certainly do.
Do I enjoy every minute of my driving experience?
Oh, heck yeah!
