Targa Top Crossfire
Well Rudy, it was bound to happen.......thankfully to a salvaged vehicle.
I'd love to hear the "real" story, go for a drive, take it through a car wash, come back and dry off.
Look at the door gap!

Wow a thread where we all agree! SRT? Sure doesn't look like it. None of the body panels match up either. FUGLY.

I'm sure he'll have something "nice" to say about it!
I had that done to a Camaro Z-28 (which, by the way, looked awesome), but I would NEVER do that to my Crossfire. Yikes. If you want a Roadster, buy a Roadster for goodness sake.
I thought about doign this when I had my base. I'd have done it quite a bit differently though and looked through a couple yards for convertible hulks to use the top part of the windshield on both the front and the back but never found anything that looked good enough to use as a starting point. I think it could have looked good if it wasn't such a hack job but I'm glad it was done to a salvage car and not a good one. BTW, the seller says it wasn't in an accident; I'd have to disagree by looking at how everything lines up.
Agree Rudy. You would think a "custom shop" would at least match up the body panels.
I guess if someone had to open up the roof the better way would be a T-Top. That would allow you to retain the spine and the ridge for stability and I think it wouldn't be as extreme a look (like the roof was just hacked off) as the targa. If someone could figure a way to add a spine to a glass sunroof that might be another way to approach it. The few sunroofs I've seen here have been flat and that breaks up the roof ridge which to my eyes is one of the focal points of the car.
Personally if you need fresh air that bad stick your head out the window or by a roadster.

Something everyone needs to remember is that this car was designed from the beginning as a convertible (R170 SLK) and the roof was added after the fact ('04 Crossfire) Any strength added by the roof on the coupes is just that, added.

The seller is a patent liar as evidenced by the statement "has never been in a accident." Perhaps he would use a different label for what HE did to it. But, having seen the serendipitous encounter with his vision, I would have to call it an accident.
He should have painted it black. it would have hidden the body flaws. However then it wouldn't go as fast.
FUGLY works for me.

I am going to buy it just so I can drive it off a cliff and put it out of its misery.
If this thing is such a work of art... I guess it would probably be worth more dead then alive.... in parts!
What bothers me is this car was stolen for the headlights and tail lights. Kind of makes you wonder if our cars will be more likely stolen for parts since they are so hard to come by these days. Our cars are probably worth more in pieces than a fully functional car.
