Default Guide me home headlamps

Week two of 04 auto Xfire ownership - the smile keeps getting wider - amazed at the performance of the car and MPG is looking very good measured against my old BMW - not sure why but looks like she is doing well on consumption. I know I did some research prior to buying, but each one should come with antiwrinkle cream to get rid if the smile lines - these cars are awesome.

I have a question though, having read all I can, I seem to have picked up that the car should have guide me home headlamps - but cant see this in my manual and not sure but cant find a thread that leads me to this (no pun intended).

Has any of you guys got an idea of what this means and if indeed she does have this option built on board - any advice much appreciated.

Never heard or saw this term in reference to the XF. I suppose it you drive towards your house, the headlights will eventually guide you home. And, yes, the mileage is pretty good for a V6 -- I average 26-28mpg with the stick overall and closer to 30 on the highway at legal speeds. But I did not buy it for the gas mileage and who wants to drive that slow.

Very droll - thanks - I thought Ive read this some where - it was definately in my car advertisement when I brought it - the system worked well on my Mercedes - when you locked the car the headlights and running lights stayed on for a predetermined time then exstinguished. In the evenings this made finding the car in car parks easier and when getting home it helped if you were leaving the car on the drive and lit the way to the door.

Page 73 of the owner's manual:

Night Security Illumination
For added security when exiting the vehicle after driving
with the exterior lights on, the lights will switch on again
for approximately 30 seconds after closing the last door.
The lights-on timing can be changed at your authorized
dealer.

Did not mean to be a wise-***. Now that you explain more, the running lights and side markers do stay on for about 30-60 seconds after you turn off the car (assuming the headlights were on). Since I park in the garage most of the time, it was more of an annoyance than a feature.

Seem to remember reading somewhere that it was not a feature on UK cars. Neither of mine have it.

Regards, Andy.

See page 181 of your manual. It is the only reference I can think of that you might have confused.

It is a "limp home" mode in the event of an auto tranny failure.

Did you answer your own question here or are you still waiting for an answer?

Thanks - I appreciate all the feedback - I am guessing the UK cars dont have this facility but appreciate all the feedback.
