Gear Lever Removal Advice Request

I have a 2004 Coupe Auto and am trying to remove the gear lever to replace with a newer model. Is anyone able to offer any advice please? Thanks

First put the car in D and turn engine off and set brake.

The bottom section of the knob screws off. You may have to use a gripper or something similar to turn it. DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF TOOL, it is very easy to damage. Once the bottom section is loose from the main knob, simply pull straight up, sometimes very very hard.

I have tried two different aftermarket knobs, both needed to be drilled deeper to fit properly.
