Default Stock Alarm?

I've had my car for about a month.

So I locked the car, went into the gas station and got change for the air compressor outside. I started unscrewing the right tire valve stem cover and I hear this UnGodly siren coming from someones car, so I continue to put air in the tire and I go around the front of the car to get to the other tire and I notice the annoying sound is coming from my car!

Seriously I just unscrewed the cap and the thing went off. I never knew my car had an alarm!!!! Do they all come with alarms or is this aftermarket....Wasnt like the python or invisibeam alarm sirens, this was like digitized....

I just have the regular key fob so I am guessing this is a stock alarm? Help?

Yes the alarm is stock. It also turns on when you disconnect the battery

Yours is broke if the alarm comes on when you disconnect the battery.... I have never had that happen with either of mine or even heard of it happening.... The service manual FREQUENTLY tells you to disconnect the battery in instructions for service..... if the alarm went off there would be a lot of really pissed of folks..

edit: sorry 818, maybe you leaned or pushed on the car while removing the cap?? I keep setting mine off when I jack it up to change the wheels and forget to unlock the car first... Oh, it will also automatically re-lock if you unlock it and then dont open the door or trunk... (when I lowered the car it went off again!)...

So, does it automatically engage when you lock it up and walk away? Is that what the panic button on the key fob is for? Press it in order to disengage it?

NO, it will NOT automatically lock up when you get out of the car.....

If the car is sitting and locked and then you unlock it with your key fob and DO NOT open the door or trunk, it will automatically re-lock after about 1 or 2 minutes....I didnt time it.... which is annoying when you are changing wheels..

edit: I went out and timed it and it re-locked after 45 SECONDS....

Thanks for the reply. Nice to hear an alarm that doesn't sound like everyone elses, its unique. So damn sensitive too, another positive thing about this car I wasn't aware of!

My alarm is definitely not broken. My alternator went out and so I had to leave my car at my aunty's house. The hood was open but all the doors were locked so when I went to disconnect the battery the alarm went off. The awesome part was I had stupidly forgotten my keys at home so I got to listen to this go off for 5 minutes until whatever reserve it had died out. I thought it was a really cool feature and makes the car that much harder to steal.

Jeff,

I would bet that when you squatted down to check the tire pressure, you caused the panic button to be depressed.

This has happened to me more than once.

Now that is a possibility, because seriously I just started to remove the car, didn't lean into the car. Thought it was extra sensitive!

Same thing happened to me when I was sitting in line to get my car inspected by the California DMV. Huge lineup of cars, how embarrassing.

I was looking around thinking, "who's car alarm is that?", then realized it was mine. Not sure whether it was the panic button or not.

That was my first thought. This is not a good car for prostitutes with tight jeans.
