Default UK RESALE VALUE, NIGHTMARE!!!!

I have some bad news, after 3 months of trying very very hard to get comfortable in the crossfire, I gave up last week and decided to trade it. I was going for the new 350 SLK but I can't wait that long. Sod the sensible part of me i,ve gone for a used Merc SL500. I didn't even consider the trade in they would offer on the crossfire, except that it would surely be at least 22K.

FORGET IT, I tried 4 dealers, they all said the same thing, 18K tops against a 60K car!!!!!!!.

To say I was p****d off is an under-statement. Sure Car Dealers and all that and I did manage to get 22K in the end but the worrying thing was that they all tried local Chrysler dealers to underwrite it. They didn't want to know, new cars are being 'forced' on the Dealers and all reported having cars sat there they couldn't shift, hence the S**T value!.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, the Crossfire is superb and I have had nothing but admiring looks. Sure for me it didn't work but I,ve got a gammy leg, need a bit of width etc etc but its a great car.

WHEN WILL THE MARKETING PEOPLE GET OFF THEIR AS@@ES AND DO SOMETHING. ITS SIMPLE, IT AIN,T SELLING CAUSE NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure that in a years time things will have settled down and residuals will recover but for me I didn't really have much choice.

It is so stupid when you look at the very very tired SLK still selling in bucket loads!!!!

Here endeth my 'Crossfire' highs and lows, its been fun and I really really wish you all the best!

22k? 18k? for a 28k motor thats the worst loss i've seen in a long time, looks like clarkson did have a big effect! I still have not seen another one on the road

A lot of people are telling me to buy the 350z which must be impacting on
potential customers.

I'm also seeing the 350z on TV ads and I've yet to see one for the
Crossfire (although I don't watch much tv)

I had a Camaro from new in the UK and that lost ’14,000 in 2 years,
but most of that loss occurred early on.

In comparison, the PT I had from new only lost ’4000 in 18 months, but
I only sold it 9 months ago and could now buy a new one for less than I
sold the second hand one!

It certainly does not pay to but new and sell quickly.

Any idea what they marked you car up to resell? (Who has it?)

Flathead:

Could you be more specific. Because I find it to be an all around WINNER! Cars are NOT investments (in other words you do not buy a car to make money) so resale value aside, I have found this to be a PRIMO car and GREAT value. What car in this price range do you feel is better? I can assure you there is NOT another car in the price range (or any other in many cases) that draws as much attention as the Crossfire. All Mercedes underneath the hood for under $35K--it's a steal. BEst of luck in your new car...

Falthead.... Go buy a RX 8 and a bowl of rice.... Now there's a real winner!!!

No one seems to remember that the first 2 years of the Corvette no one was tearing down fences to get to them.

The only problem with this car is DC's unbelievably lousy job of promoting it. When people realise what this car is it will move off the lots.

And if it doesn't so be it.... I will still be enjoying the uniqueness of this car. When I take it to an autocross it's not one of many, like the Honda s2000s or the BMW M3s or the 350Zs. You never see groups of people standing around them and praising the way they look. They are all standing around the lone Crossfire. I Love it!!! :P

Quite honestly I hope that people that are too automotively ignorant to see and know what this car is, will go buy japanese and leave this car for someone that knows how to appreciate it.

Worrying cos I was hoping to trade it in after the Summer. I'll just have to hope for a good year work wise so I don't have to worry about it too much.

One less Crossfire on the road I guess.

Just the practicallity of the car. I'm going to need a car that can do high miliage comfort with space to take abit more stuff.

I fancy the new Chrysler 300C or is it 300M thats a Old E-Class in disguise. Although getting that would leave me with the some hadicap as the Crossfire has.

I also like the PACIFICA which Chrysler have in the States but have no hope of it coming to the UK.

You got me thinking. How many used crossfire are out there and what is the going price?

I checked www.carsource.co.uk there is 21 crossfire for sale. 6 are POA. 15 have a average price of 25525.00

There are some good deals out there, for example
Silver Saph auto with tracker 500 mile 26995. Two at 25850 with 5000 miles
and the last being a auto with 3000 miles at 26400.00

As these are used, ex demo or pre reg I am sure the shrood operator could get these price down by another ’500.00 or so.

I can see why they offer 22k at the end of the day.

Your post has me on a high as I going to talk to my dealer about a discount on my car that is set to arrive next month.

When I looked at the car in Jan there was two on the lot, both sold. When I went last week there was two on the lot but neiteher had sold sign and the demo was for sale marked POA.

Does anyone out there have any more research as to the used car prices.

I have never managed to secure a great car deal as I always buy with the heart and not the brain at 40 maybe it time to change.

Yes I can be more specific. First off I have owned many, many new cars and trucks. I thought this car was a good deal also when I picked it up. I have had a simple problem and its going on two weeks to get it fixed, I really dont think chrysler is ready to deal with this car from a service stanpoint. They seem to strugle with the most minor problems and they dont seem to have any parts in stock. If what you want is looks then go for it, I go for a total package and expect a car to hold up well and service should not be a problem. It could be that my dealer just is not up to standerd, but I think its deeper than that.

WMichaels, You talk about ignorant people not knowing what kind of car they have??? Pretty broad statement coming from a guy that trys to compare this car to the early corvette. By the way I have owned several vettes

Like I said if it is looks an attention you crave then this is your car, If you want a good solid performer you might best keep looking. There is a reason that a ton of used crossfires are out there for sale.

Please dont think I am bashing the car. Its OK and a nice car, but its not the ultimate wonder car that some think it is. JMHO. Besides the wife wont let me sell it anyway :P

What in your opinion is the "ultimate car"--I don't think anyone is saying the XFire is the ultimate car, but for $35K it's one heck of a bargain. Because your dealer is taking long to fix your car, that does not all of a sudden make ALL Crossfires "not the ultimate car"--maybe you should go drop $150K on a Ferrari, now that is close to my ulimate car, but out of my price range.

Again, resale value should never be the sole reason for buying a car--cars depreciate that's a fact of life. Sounds like you have a bit of buyer remorse, and cannot get anyone to unload your Crossfire on, and now you are pissed. I understand, but life's tough...you signed the dotted line on the contract--no one else.

Wow! Some of you guys should not have purchased the crossfire as I see it. This car is not a family car, not a every day driver, and not a truck. It is in fact a special 2 seater sports car made in Germant for thoes people who can afford the luxury of owning it along with there other cars of interest. Yes, it is not for everyone. But for thoes who love it's looks and German quality there is nothing that comes close, in my estimation, at any price. Perhaps thoes of you who complain realy can't afford this car. Maby you should be driving a Hoda Accord and leave this great car to thoes of us who can not only apprecieate the crossfire but can afford ownershipo as well.

i'll take exception with one. small, part there. it is an everyday car. at least here in houston where the snow usually doesn't get too deep.

i also found it to be suprisingly good over long distances. one trip was 3600 miles in under 4 days and it was amazingly kind to my somewhat sensitive back.

the dealer makes a huge difference. i have had some minor troubles, the radio (twice) and a hatch rattle but i spent a few minutes getting to know the service guys and letting them know i'd work with 'em. they freely admitted that this is (was) the first one they'd had in and i've been pretty good about sharing some of the stuff i'm learning here. the overall attitude is more like "we're in this thing together". the radio guy couldn't fit in the car the first time so i remembered to tilt the back up and move the seat all the way back the next time. little stuff but trust me; a happy mechanic makes a happy car.

6 months, 8,000 miles and still....so happy i could just pee!!!

You slay me!!! Why dont you ask me what my payment is. 8) Your assuming an awfull lot here my friend. Sorry I dont agree with the majority of those that own this car. But I am intitled to my opinion. I think in the long run some may swing more to my way of thinking. As always JMHO.

Interesting points here...... All I can say is I love mine and have had no problems. Yes I was aware of the potential resale situation, but don't plan to sell it for many years. Since its a Euro in American Skin, most people don't understand what the Crossfire is all about. Forget Chrysler's past vehicles this is a new breed and if Chrysler can change their image and reputation then this will help pave the way for more unique and interesting vehicles. I must admit it was Mercedes and not Chrysler that sold me on this vehicle. I always wanted an SLK but the Slk320 is $46k base and besides, this is a newer vehicle. Im hoping Chrysler dealers will step up to the plate and evolve into a more upscale experience. They need to take a hard look at how Lexus babies their customers. Of course they should as anyone who pays 65k for a SC430 really has money to burn.
Anyway, love the Crossfire. May not be a practical car but its FUN, and I wanted a two-seater for playing on weekends anyway. My other car is a four door that my wife drives. Im in my company truck all week anyway and im usually dreaming about the weekend in my CROSSFIRE 8)

Out here in California, Santa Cruz/San Jose area the crossfire can absolutly be an everyday car, I Commute 72 miles everyday ( 65miles highway) 10K miles in 6 months. This is the kind of car I see never getting rid of, when the engine gets tired in........oh...say.....8 years or so I think I could just rebuild it and install that supercharger and start all over
