Is it Me?
Over the last several weeks, thanks to good timing, I have had the pleasure of interacting with 2 fellow crossfire owners, both of which happened to be women. My intent was the tell them about the forum and the wealth of information. Here is how the stories go....
First time, coming back to the office from lunch and I see a black roadster, top down. Beautiful day, light has just turned red and stopped us both alongside one another, her turning left, me going straight. I have my windows down, and when I pull up she looks up from her blackberry enough to see my car and I say, "Nice crossfire" and she mumbles something and does not look up again.
Second time, I pull into one of my customer's parking lots and I see a gal had just gotten into her black XF coupe and rolled the windows down. She was in a spot where I could easily pull next to her (maybe 8 feet away) so I do. I stop and say, "Nice coupe" and she says thanks, but in a strange tone. I leave the customer site 10 mins later and she is still outside in her car, and she is staring at the car as I drive away.
My question is, and please be honest, especially those that have seen the car in person (pics do not do the rims justice) Does this car look ghetto fabulous or is it more like a nicely modified Euro tuner car?
Also, gives me an excuse to post some new pics (sorry I am not a great photographer, but learning). What do you think of the new SS lower grilles? Trying them out for now, think I will probably PC them black to match the upper.....

This by far one of the nicer customizations that I have seen from a crossfire. These wheels really serve the car well and just mesh with the overall design of the car. The only thing that I personally would have done differently would be to go much lighter on the lenses front and back. I also imagine the headlight being the soul of the automobile, and I feel that our cars have very unique head and taillight clusters why not so them off. On the other hand I understand that theme that you are going for and that tinting those were a must. As far as ghetto fab goes I don't think that you need to worry about that until you apply the adhesive air vents across the wheel arches.
With that said however, the car is still quite intimidating especially to a stranger or to someone who is not a member of this forum. Having been a member for a couple of months myself, I can tell that you are very knowledgeable about the cars and I would have no problem approaching you or the car assuming we were to ever to come across. Bottom line is that the car is just to menacing ("not ghetto fab") for the average person out there to approach with any confidence given the two scenarios that you laid out. So no worries keep up the great work.

car looks great Boiler. personally i'd PC the lowers, and I would also PC the wing on the hood. And no it's not you. odd that another 2 XF owners would not just say hi, but people are getting odder by the day, and I've noticed this more likely to occur in women when they don't know you thru family or friends. but given that y'all have xf's one would think they'd know you were primarily saying hi because of the car.
Your car is fine, not ghetto, please! What I've found is the same thing. There are two camps apparently just like the PT or probably any other car that people modify, those of us who are obsessed with them and people that just drive them because they are a "car". Early on when I had my PT it was a big deal to see someone with one, we waved and it was back like when I had my Corvette. Then came the people that used them for what they were intended for, transportation. The waves stopped, the press on flames became the norm and I lost interest. It seemed everywhere you turned there was a PT Cruiser. I finally threw in the towel when I saw one all decked out with white walls, chrome everything trim, a viser over the front window, press on flames and a set of brass ********* hanging under the back of the car. I thought "this is what its come to?"
A few weeks ago I ran into a lady in the Home Depot parking lot, black roadster. Told her about .org, the club and she polietly said thanks and I was gone. I've not seen her here. I guess the moral of all this is "don't expect that just because they own a Crossfire they are gonna be nuts like us here". To some its just a means of getting from point A to point B.

I think the car looks great, maybe you say hello too creepily? haha I like the rims, I'm waiting for my drive train warranty to run out before I start messing with the wheels and tires. I wanna go 18s all the way around for winter and better tires for summer on some nice rims.

Younger girls are almost always going to give you the "I'm too good to respond" attitude. And most likely, daddy bought it for them because they thought it was cute. I'd hazard to say many of them don't know the pedigree, don't care either.
Older folks generally give me a much warmer response. Having said that, it stands to reason that most of them probably earned the keys through hard work. Those types of folks rarely impulse-buy, and so they've likely done their homework and appreciate the auto.
Don't let two failed attempts dismay you. I used to work in sales, and loved it. Even when I was "on fire", I would get five "no's" for every one "yes".
This is no different.
This is simply transportation to the spoiled brats, and they're only angry you interrupted their text.
Let THEM wallow in their own self-righteous mess... keep being the stand-up guy that you are.
It's odd that you mention this. Not you.. the other driver. last week I had my son in the car (he has very short hair almost shaved). I only mention this because I feel that we were profiled in this situation.
We pulled in to get gas at a busy intersection.
I pulled up to the pump and my son said Dad did you see that cop make a u-turn in the middle of a busy and very dangerous street (traffic wise). I didn't see him. Especially because I wasn't expecting him to go to that trouble. I didn't break any laws.
That said he came around the store slowly and approached my car at the pump and stopped. I got out of my car and said hello Officer can I help you. When he saw me he acted surprised and rather weird. I'm 6' 220lbs (solid) and a mature adult. Maybe he expected two kids. I look much younger then I am. Whether that's important, I don't know. I believe we were profiled.
He asked me several questions about the emblems on my car. Again acting rather weird. He seemed to act like he knew a little about the crossfire, although not the different models. I asked if he owned one. He said yes I do. And that was it. Never asked how I liked the car. Nice looking car. What does the emblem mean (the forum black crossfire emblem), etc, etc. What was his problem. Another crossfire owner who acted unusual.
Answering your question in regard to your car.Your car looks good. This shouldn't have anything to do with a crappy reaction from another owner. Picture of my car included also. You got some unfriendly CF owners out their. Or perhaps jealous!
And please don't say he might have expected my car to be stolen, etc. These are hick cops where I live. The news recently talked about corruption and one of the sheriffs men who left his gun in the McDonalds bathroom and when he went back to get it someone stole it. Not all of them are bad, but I keep my own gun around for protection. I would never count on them.

around here (over 1/2 mil ppl), it's mostly women who own crossfires and our car in any form or color is a rare sight (i have the only srt's i've ever seen). i tend to think it's a daddy/hubby buy for them. finally, last week we were out in the srt and across a large intersection was a grey limited. guy driver and we waved at each other.

It's the radiation, you know.
Nice Pics Boilerup.
For the record,,,,,,, It's not the car
I am reminded of a recent experince of my own.
Eurocharged was coming in last Sunday nite. I wanted to lead him over to the Hotel and then to the plant.
I was parked on the side of the road with the top down on my roadster, engine running and yours truly, this old grey haired pot bellied ugly Indian, was leaning against the car in the soft glowing twilight of late evening.
In a period of 30 minutes at least 20 concerned citizens came by and stopped to see if I was alright.
About 10 were pretty young women.
Now if this odd looking old fart had been standing next to his '95 beat up one ton DODGE dually, peeling paint, a drooping running boards and all, I can promise they all would have gone by saying "look at that old guy in the beatup truck. Neither should be out on the road this late in the evening.
Maybe it was the setting sunlight, maybe I just happened to look momentarily charming, maybe it was the CAR!
I don't care. At least ten pretty girls stopped and asked me if there was something they could do for me. I told 'em "Yes, but then at least one of us would be in a heap of trouble." And then, I foolishly told them I was fine but "thank you for stopping by."
I have to tell you, it wasn't me they were stopping to see. It was the Crossie. Damm things are better at grabbing chics than a puppy.
I ain't never selling this car.

Well Boilerup, the car looks great so it has to be you! The only thing that would make your car look better is ...... lower it a bit if possible. That could make other Crossfire owners even more worried about you, but who cares anyway.
