Default New MB SLS - They cant get away from the Crossfire

I can still see the Crossfire resemblance in the new AMG SLS and its a 100K plus exotic.

Help me out here. Is that an articulating wing or just the door to the boot?

If not a wing, why not? What keeps the butt on that car down? At what speed does it deploy?

roadster with a stick

yeah, interesting. That tells me their design engineers are REALLY underinspired, or the Cross was such a classic deign you can't hardly improve upon it. Or both I suppose are not mutually exclusive. That's why these cars we cherish are sure to be classics someday.

If you want to get technical...there i a good reason for that. The SLS as it came into production actually started out as the Viper program designing the next gen viper (no it was not going to look like the SLS does now)...then it was something that went with Daimler when the split happened...and they basically had to start from scratch. They aren't postponing the release date (2012, 10 years after the 1st production viper) but let's just hope they don't let any important engineering cues slip and keep the fit and finish to the standard viper has become known for

Yes it's an articulating wing. Pops up at speeds in excess of 80mph I think and again to assist in braking. Here's an awesome video with Schumacher driving... sort of

I like the disclaimer "...sort of"

The Tunnel shot is widely considered to be CGI, though the engineering aspects of it say that it could be possible. The biggest thing would be the downforce created has to be greater than the weight of the car. This is obviously determined by speed.

...also Schumacher did not drive, but rather just sat looking pretty in the car, but I'm guessing you already knew that.

I went to the actual release party of the SLS AMG (and the SLS, plus SLR) and inside it's exactly like the Crossfire. I would not lay that much money on that car. Very nice looking in white. and resembles my XF a lot.

Looks to me like a cross between the Crossfire and a Viper, look at the red one in the picture, very Viperish.

I got to go to the US release party for the SLS, it was a pretty schnazzy event. I was lucky enough that my company actualy airfreights a lot of press mercedes all over the world. Hooray for being in marketing and the sales person that landed the deal knowing i was into cars specifically AMGs.

Well, I guess the Crossfire has a big brother, a very wealthy one! Really see the similarities and sadly what the Crossfire might have evolved into if were still in production?

I can see a resemblance to the Viper in this more than the Crossfire. You have to understand, it's a two-seater sports car- something that MB has been doing for some time now. This just reminds me of their original gullwing car. Why has no one else noticed this?

I definitely note the Viper resemblance more than the Crossfire. I guess people assume crossfire because of the motorized wing and stubby rear end. It definitely has a more 'Viper' feel to it IMO.

...and in my previous post on her you can see where I mentioned that the SLS program started out originally as the next-gen Viper program at Chrysler.

Man, I hope they go with exposed headers on the next-gen viper like they had on the original 1989 Viper prototype. THAT, would be awesome.
