Default Has anyone bought a BWD crank position sensor?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping for some help about my failed crank sensor and the BWD replacement I purchased today. I did quite a bit of research via the "search" feature on here, and still had a question...

My XF died on me while I was IN a drive-through yesterday. After it cooled for about 45 minutes, it started right back up again.

I know it is the crank sensor, so I went to Kraigen Auto Parts and purchased a BWD brand one for $57.00. My concern is that the new sensor in the BWD box has Bosch and Mercedes Benz imprinted on the side, just like my old/original sensor.

I read that one XF owner said he also purchased a BWD sensor last year, and it had Bosch on the side. He mentioned that it came to no surprise because companies sometimes rebrand items?

Has anyone on here replaced their bad crank sensor with a BWD one? I need to know if it says Bosch on one side and Mercedes Benz on the other?

I'm really hesitant, thinking someone's original sensor died, so they bought a BWD one and then stuck their bad sensor in the BWD box and returned it, essentially getting a new one for free.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! The last thing I want is to get stranded in a dangerous spot again because the "new" sensor I bought was really an old/non-working one!

Another thing is that I called 3 other Kraigen's and they said their BWD sensors just said "Made in Germany" and not Bosch or Mercedes.

Oh, and the one I bought today is already installed, and my car is starting fine...but I haven't taken it for a long drive yet...kind of scared to get stranded again!

Thanks guys!

Yes, it seems like these sensors, oil filters, etc. are frequently reboxed/rebranded. So if it's actually a Bosch/MB part, I'd sleep well. But I carry a spare crank sensor, just in case. And a 10 mm wrench for disconnecting the battery, after reading advice here; have used it when the battery died, but the alarm still sounded.

Seems like, if it was REALLY used, you could tell by the imprint the mounting bolt leaves.

I also think you are o.k. here.

I also think that you will be fine.... most stores will not take electronic parts back once installed.... for the exact reason you are worried about... you cant tell if they are good/bad.... drive and enjoy..

Thanks for the input guys! I think I was just a little hesitant since other Kragen's said the same sensor only said "Made in Germany."

I definitely feel more secure now after hearing your comments. Thanks again!

Well, I just took my Crossfire out to test out the new crank sensor I put in, and within 5 minutes, my car died at a stop light.

So as I suspected, it looks like some a-hole took his original/non-working sensor and returned it to Kragen in the BWD box, and Kragen in turn stuck it back on the shelf.

I went to pick up yet another BWD crank sensor at a different Kragen this evening, and this one only says "Made in Germany," not "Mercedes Benz/Bosch."

FYI to those looking for a new crank sensor...Kragen/O'Reilly Auto Parts has a LIFETIME warranty on them...which is a great deal!

I'm just hoping this is the last time I'll ever have to replace mine.

That sucks... I have purchased 3 crank sensors and they all say Bosch on them with all the same numbers as the original MB part but without the MB star on them... glad you got it taken care....
