I bought my Passport 9500xi on E-bay over a year ago for $395.

I'm in Arizona and tickets for speeding range from $145-$366 depending on your speed over the posted limit. So you include the points on your driving record and insurance upper I think the $400 is well spent.

I had a situation three months ago on the way to work. I was doing 75 in a 65 on I-10 when my radar detector went off. I preceeded to slow down to 65 and spotted the cop behind me and traffic at about a half mile . He followed me for a good two miles with my detector going off. He followed me thru the interchange of I-10 and I-19 and threw the lights on and pulled me over.

When he got to my car he could see my radar detector and could hear it going off. He started to chuckle and said "see those things don't work". I explained to the cop that the radar detector picked him up more than (3) miles back and I was going the speed limit of 65. I also stated that I had been watching him in my rearview mirror and was shocked when he pulled me over. The cop laughingly confirmed that I was going 65. But said as soon a I hit the interchange (I-10 to I-19) the speed dropped to 55.

Well I thought I was now screwd. When he came back to the car with my ticket, He stated he was impressed with my radar detector and wanted to know what make and model it was so he could get one. He cut me some slack and wrote me a ticket for "Wasteing Natural Resources" and not speeding. The ticket cost me $48 and no points.

I'm convinced this detector works.

That is true, but not all run with them on, but in "standby" just don't be that unlucky person. Everyone else will be recieving the signal and slowing down, thinking...damn that was close....when it really wasn't, he already got his. But, there are those that drive around with theirs on, looking for the guy that doesn't have a detector...but, not the good hunters....lol....

beltronics 955 we bought about a week ago for 169 from frys electronics and have been very happy with it and yes has saved my butt already and from a huge 120 in a 65mph zone. Excellent range by far.. I agree with the comment on the Cobras owned one that talked worked great until it suffered and lost the sound! Got sick and the guy stopped talking ( doesnt like the TEXAS heat I guess) replaced the speaker and it died to so we bought a new one and hard wired with the little button on the steering column... pretty slick!!!! my .02

lot of good stuff in the RD world
this had me all excited, thinking I was about to off the V1

PASSPORT iQ - Escort Inc.

which brought me to this
Overview | Radaractive

Veil Guy: RadarActive Review: Are Conventional Radar Detectors Obsolete?

I have the concealed display,
but this is better, its not obvious what its doing, shows traffic, map & plays music once trapster becomes less annoying, it will be a nice package

anyone saying RD's are worthless are speaking out of ignorance
even the laser detector, when paired w/ a good jammer, works well
Mine:
Laser Interceptor USA - Laser Jammer - Exclusive Factory Authorized Distributor to The USA and Canada - Product Info.

none if this is a ticket to floor it mindlessly
their just tools

That's 'cause the police in Murfreesboro don't have radars.

The best and safest solution is a V1 combined with a blinder laser jamming system

Wont ever get a single ticket, if your smart enough that is

My 9500i saved me from a potential ticket yesterday. Was driving to work going about 65 in a 55, going with the flow of traffic when my detector lit up with both laser and KA band so I immediately got off the gas and slowed down to the speed limit. I saw the cop pull out from an on-ramp and he pulled over the guy next to me who I had been pacing just moments before.

This thing has honestly paid for itself several times over already. My only regret is not buying one years ago.

I was cruising down the interstate, 75 +/- in a 55, driving someone else's car, no detector. There were a couple of cops with people pulled over. I came up to the next overpass and there was another cop sitting under it, on the left shoulder. He tapped his brakes to tell me to slow down. I didn't, just kept going. He got over it.

I just got the Beltronics 955 and am very impressed! It is a great unit and doesn't break the bank. I have received four tickets since putting the V8 in so it was time for counter measures!

How in the world are you still legally driving, if you're gotten 4 tickets?
Oh, and don't blame the V-8 for that, either.

It's that damn sticky gas pedal's fault, you know!

I have had an Escort 8500 for 8 years and love it!
I am planning on buying another one. I think the gps stuff is way over-hyped. If you drive the same roads everyday, you know where the detector will go off and on what band.
The 8500 has great range and it is only $299. Super cheap insurance in my book.
Like I said mine has paid for itself several times over at least!

Cheers,
KrzyFast

It is because of the V8! When you swap to the V8 you lose cruise control. I got these tickets on long drives on the highway. Fortunately here in Texas they have something called "defered" which means if you don't get caught in again in the same city for three months it is off your record. Each ticket cost more than the detector.
