Default Who uses a radar detector in their car???

I just bought one this weekend. Bel Vector 985 it retails at 240.00. I picked one up on ebay for about 175.00. First weekend of use it saved my butt 2-3 times. I got it because i've been pulled over in my crossfire about 3 times. 1 speeding Ticket and a improper lane change(bullsh!t ticket) The other one i got let off because i had a sweet car(this is what the pig told me) well this weekend i got saved by this radar. They say it's the best radar/laser detector on the market right now. For others that use a radar detector what are the ones you guys use. Im in florida so it's legal to have one.

I just bought a Valentine One about a week ago, still feeling it out. Hasn't bailed me out yet, but I haven't been on the open road either. So far I like it for its ability to sort out real from fake "bogeys".

I won't get into the trooper naming debate, other than to say I have no use for authority craving, quota fulfilling A-hole cops who have no ability to differentiate perfectly safe fast driving from terribly unsafe, self deputized, left lane 55 MPH driving. You know, the self important twits who create havoc on the highway by going 55 in the left lane before going home and telling their equally self important twit of a spouse what wonderful work they've just done by promoting "safety".

Passport SOLO II. It's cordless and quite easy to travel with. Made the run from San Francisco this morning back to San Diego (suffering from Left Coast hook-up withdrawal symptoms. SOLO saved me 3 times on 580. Once from the back...obviously a reflection from the car in front of me, and twice from the side. Saved MY BACON numerous times in UTAH on the way down for the meet. Just gotta remember to turn it on and check the batteries. And by the way...had a blast with the crew on the LC Hookup. Will post pics when back in Denver.

Valentine 1. Best on the market, most expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Oh man that sucks. I was watching video's from Gumball 2000. An event where top dollar sport car owners go from one end of the country to the other. Occasionally (ok most of the time) going at hi rates of speed, well over the speed limit.

When they were passing through your state, there was a tropper that had entered the highway. Just as he hit them with radar, the car braked. That was how he could tell they had a radar detector in the car. The trooper even told him that.

Sucker move

I have 2 uncles that are cops so i do have sympathy for those that are good cops. But we all know that not all of them are good cops(pigs)

In my 23 years of life 5-6 years of driving i have encountered some nasty egotrip cops. For example i got a damn ticket for a improper lane change. I was all alone on the road cruising(not speeding) and the guy pulls me over in order to fill quota.

I use a radar detector -- the cheapest one from Radio Shack and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since. Plus I have like 10 PBA cards. So I'm happy.

As for what my personal opinion is of cops... they suck... I'm a professional and a homeowner.. I appreciate them making our neighborhoods safer.. but most ARE on a power trip, and I think harass innocent civilians for no reason. If I was dressed all thugged out, I'm sure I'd get treated worse in my xfire, than if I was pulled over and wearing my suit.

Cops also use steroids! It's a fact - I know cops and anytime you see one whose huge and muscular - you can bet they use them. Steroids are much more widespread than most people realize. People don't get huge and ripped naturally - FACT.

One time when I was younger a cop was harassing us and wanted to search our car in order to make sure we don't have guns or grenades. GRENADES?? Who the hell has grenades...

They also spend time busting innocent weed smokers for a dime bag when they should go after the ones selling the pounds. Yes I smoke weed on occassion and enjoy it.

Well known. They watch for front end's to dip, which tells them either a) driver has radar detector, or b) driver saw cop and knew he/she was speeding.

Either way gives them probably cause to stop you. You may not know this, but at least here in VA, radar alone is NOT probably cause to stop you for speeding. The cops have to go to long training classes on estimating vehicle speeds, and when you go to court the cop will tell the judge he estimated your speed at X, and verified your speed with radar. The cops get good enough at this training to be able to estimate within 5 MPH, and have to pass a test doing so or they don't get radar certified.

Cops can't be perfect and having a radar detector protects you from cops who are just guessing I've contested my tickets alot in court especially those where the cop tells you 90 and when you ask to see the radar meter comes back and tells you 82 in a 70..just enough for you to enroll in defensive driving class. Who knows if they really tag you or not or were just guessing from what they saw.

Here in Texas, I'm surprised how cops can pull over 3 cars together for speeding. Common sense tells me it violates the rule of physics ! Well, unless all 3 cars are loaded in a trailer truck

PASSPORT SOLO here......saves money for more Crossfire goodies
