I am asking about the valve cover gaskets not the breather gaskets. I know the breather gaskets are sealed with rvt

That surface is sealed with an "O" ring type gasket that fits in a groove.

No sealant used.
From the service manual.
INSTALLATION
1. Check the gasket for tearing and breakage. If damage is evident, replace the gasket.
2. Position the cylinder head covers (2) on the cylinder head.
Install the cylinder head cover bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (7 ft. lbs.).

Took the '08 in for the gasket repairs this morning (Olathe Chrysler)....covered under the 3/36. They just called to say they would need to keep it for one more day as there was some parts they had to order (the sealant I suppose ?).

I told the guy on the phone that I also had an '07 with 63,000 miles on it & that it has the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty & has the exact same gasket leak......he said the LPW would cover the problem!!!

I live a little north of the NASCAR track, the HOLLYWOOD CASINO should open around XMAS....I should be able to roll down there in my wheelchair in my old age......I went to the sneak peak grand opening of the new soccer stadium last week (free food).....it's really cool....I guess it's the best soccer stadium in the country!

Chris:

My Xfire with 20K miles on it has sprung a valve cover oil leak. I'm also just two months past it's 3-year warranty. Is the lifetime powertrain warranty standard on all Xfires or is that something you purchased? Who did you talk to at the Olathe dealership? I was considering taking it there since I live in Olathe. Did they do a good job?

I just replaced my in the spring. I only used some spray on gasket adhesive. It helps to hold the gaskets in place while you're putting it back together. Permatex spray.

It appears they did a good job, but we've put less than 100 miles on it since the repair.

The LPW was included in the price if you were the original owner and purchased the vehicle >7/25/07....the policy ended 2-3 years after that date. If you call the dealership & give them the VIN they can tell you what (if any) kind of warranty the car still has....

Invoice says the advisor was Michael Moutray. If you bought it new around May of 08 & were the 1st owner.....it should have the LPW.

On our 08 there were 2 part #s listed on the invoice & it took them a week to get the parts in....I assume they did the left & right valve cover gaskets.
