Details: I OWN A 2004 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE. AS I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE CITY YESTERDAY 07/30/07 I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO A CROSS STREET AND SUDDENLY MY STEERING LOCKED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP JUST INCHES FROM A PARKED CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD ONLY MOVE SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. I EXERTED SOME FORCE TO THE WHEEL IN THE LEFT HAND DIRECTION AND SUDDENLY IT BROKE LOOSE AND BECAME FREE AGAIN, AT THE SAME TIME THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON. I CAREFULLY DROVE THE CAR TO A DEALER WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING HAD BROKEN AND JAMMED THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN A CLOCKSPRING BREAK ON THIS TYPE OF CAR. THE CAR IS TO BE REPAIRED 08/01/07, AT A COST TO ME OF $350.00, AND I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THEY GIVE ME THE OLD PARTS. THIS CAR IS ONE OF VERY FEW PRODUCED AND IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 22,000 MILES ON IT. I DID EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY CROSSFIRE AND THERE WAS NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ON THE CROSSFIRE. I SUSTAINED MINOR SEAT BELT INJURIES ON MY SHOULDER AND ACROSS MY STOMACH. I DID CALL CHRYSLER TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON THE CAR AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD HAVE THE CAR AND ACCIDENT INVESTIGATED. I LEARNED LATER THAT THE REASON THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON THE CROSSFIRE WAS THAT THE RELEASE FOR THE FRONT AIRBAGS IS IN THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE AND THE ONLY WAY TO DEPLOY THEM IS TO BEND THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A MAJOR FAILURE IN THAT THE CROSSFIRE HAS SUCH A LOW PROFILE THAT THERE ARE VERY FEW CARS THAT YOU COULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT WITH AND THEN HAVE THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. *JB

LATER THAT NIGHT I TOOK THE CAR OUT AND WAS STUCK IN A PARKING LOT FOR 2 HOURS. HAD TO GET A CAB HOME, GET MY FIANCE TO COME HELP ME TURN THE KEY. HE COULDNT DO IT EITHER. WE FINALLY SEEKED HELP FROM 2 GUYS AND ONE WAS ABLE TO FINALLY TURN THE KEY. GOT HOME, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN IT AGAIN. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IDENTIFIED THE BRAKING AS CLIMBING A GRADE AND IT WAS ACCELERATING IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE SPEED AT WHICH THE CRUISE WAS SET.

IN ADDITION TO THAT, WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE CAR JERKS BACK AND FORTH IN WHILE IN 1ST OR 2ND GEAR , AS IF THE CLUTCH WASNT ENGAGING. HOWEVER I COULD GET THAT TO JERKING TO STOP IF I APPLIED THE BRAKES REALLY HARD. 3-D WOULDNT JERK, HOWEVER IT WOULD SLAM DOWN INTO THE LOWER GEARS WHEN COMING TO THE STOP. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING BACK IN OCTOBER. THE TRANS, AND HYDROLIC ISSUES JUST STARTED HAPPENING MAY 23, 2005.

SO MY COMPLAINT IS DO TO THE CARS FAILURE TO REGULATE ITS POWER, IT COOKED MY TRANSMISSIONS DRIVE PLATE LOCATED INTERNALLY ON TOP OF THE VALVE BODY. THEN SURGED BACK TO THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE & FRIED THAT. AND SOME HOW, AND I CANT FIGURE OUT WHY THIS OCCURRED BUT, THE INTERNAL GEARS INSIDE MY THROTTLE BODY GOT FUSED TOGETHER. THIS IS STRANGE TO ME SEEING THAT THE GEARS ARE MADE OUT OF A COMPOSITE. SO WITH ALL THAT HAS OCCURRED IT HAS LEFT THE CAR LIFELESS FOR OVER 90 DAYS NOW. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORP. I HAVE BEEN CORRESPONDING WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE NORTH AMERICA REGARDING THEIR GENERAL BRANDED TIRES THAT I PURCHASED ON MARCH 19, 2009. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRES SINCE THEN AND HAVE TRIED IN VAIN TO HAVE THE TIRE INSTALLERS REPLACE THEM. I THEN ESCALATED IT IN FEBRUARY WITH CONTINENTAL AND THEY HAVE BEEN LACKADAISICAL WITH THEIR APPROACH TO THIS ISSUE. THE TIRES ARE OF POOR BUILT QUALITY, UNRELIABLE, EXTREMELY NOISY AND THE RIDE QUALITY IS TERRIBLE. I EMAILED THEM SEVERAL TIMES POINTING TO THE FACT THE THESE TIRES SOUND AND FEEL UNSAFE, IT SWAYS MY VEHICLE ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY AND AFTER INSPECTION BY A REPUTABLE TIRE DEALER AT CONTINENTALS REQUEST IT SHOWED THAT THE TIRES ARE POOR TIRES AND MY VEHICLE HAS NO MECHANICAL FAULT THAT WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THE POOR RIDE QUALITY. CONTINENTALS ONLY RESPONSE IS TO PROVIDE ONLY 50 % OF THE FRONT TIRES ALONE AND NOTHING FOR THE REARS. IN OTHER WORDS THEY DONT CARE IF I ALREADY SPENT 700 BUCKS ON THEIR CRAPPY TIRES THEY WANT ME TO PAY MORE TO REPLACE THEM. I FIRST TOOK IN FOR NEW BRAKES IN NOV. 2005 AND ALSO ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A METAL RATTLE NOISE WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TO ORDER A RIGHT FRONT STRUT. THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT STRUT AND RELEASED IT TO ME. JAN 3, 2006, I RETURNED TO THE SERVICE CENTER WITH THE SAME NOISE PROBLEM. THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 7 DAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD TO ORDER A REAR STRUT FOR MY CAR. I ASKED WHY DID THEY REPLACE THE FRONT STRUT. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT REPLACE IT, THEY JUST ORDERED IT. (FIRST LIE) THREE 3 DAYS IN ON JAN 6, 2006 I ASKED ABOUT MY CAR AND SERVICE REP CHUCK SAID "WHATS UP BRO. I ASKED ABOUT THE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE. HE SAID "IF IT WAS READY ID CALLED YOU". YES IM A BLACK MAN, BUT I AM NOT HIS BRO. I AM A CUSTOMER. I MADE A COMPLAINT TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AL. NOTHING WAS DONE. I CAME BACK ON TUE. JAN. 10, 2005. WHILE WAITING TO TALK TO AL THE MANAGER, HE WAS TALKING TO THE MECHANIC WHO ASSIGNED TO WORK ON MY CAR AND CHUCK. UNKNOWING OF MY PRESENCE, AL SAY TO THEM THAT HE NEEDED THEM TO LOOK INTO WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE WHITE CROSSFIRE, THE CUSTOMER HAS BEEN IN A RENTAL FOR CLOSE TOO 5 DAYS. THE MECHANIC SAY "SO, THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM". THAT IS A PROBLEM! I ASK CHUCK, EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. HE LOOK AT ME AND SAID "I DONT KNOW" I ASK, DID ANY ONE LOOK AT MY CAR, BECAUSE EVERYTIME I CALL HERE YOU TELL ME THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON IT. POTHOLES ARE A NORMAL FACTOR IN LIFE WITH THE US ROAD SYSTEM. 2) THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BENT WHEEL WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE LOW PROFILE TIRES USED ON CROSSFIRE AND SEBRING PRODUCTS. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY REPORTS ON THIS, SO AM USING THIS MECHANISM TO FILE FORMAL PRODUCT REPORT ON WHEEL RELIABILITY AND SAFETY. I TRAVEL 45 MILES ONE WAY ON INTERSTATE DRIVING. Details: I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AT-FAULT WRECK ON JULY 10, 2009. MY FOOT SLIPPED OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP MY SLOWING CAR. I CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A UPS TRUCK. MY CHEST SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE THE DRIVERS AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE PASSENGERS AIRBAG DID. THE POLICE AND FIREMAN WERE EXTREMELY SHOCKED AND IT IS WRITTEN UP THE POLICE ACCIDENT REPORT. I NEED HELP IN CONTACTING CHRYSLER CONCERNING THIS INCIDENT. MY CAR WAS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND HAD ONLY 46,000 MILES ON IT. I AM NOW DISABLED AND CAN NO LONGER WORK TO SUPPORT MYSELF. THE HOSPITAL SENT ME HOME FROM THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND PAIN CONTINUED TO WORSEN IN MY NECK AND LOWER BACK UNTIL I WAS FORCED TO STOP WORKING AFTER 33 YEARS IN THE SAFETY FIELD. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL ATTORNEYS AND THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THEY WILL NOT TAKE THE CASE BECAUSE CHRYSLER IS IN BANKRUPTCY. BIG DEAL! THEY ARE STILL SELLING CARS!!!!! THE GOVERNMENT BAILED THEM OUT TO THE TUNE OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, THEIR EXECUTIVES STILL RECEIVED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN BONUSES, ETC. AND I, AN OWNER OF ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES, WHICH I LONGED FOR SINCE IT WAS RELEASE AND AM NOW DISABLE DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE AIRBAG, WHICH IS DOCUMENTED BY POLICE. THIS WILL NOT BE MY FINAL EFFORT TO RECEIVE DAMAGES FROM CHRYSLER. THIS ALLOW RAIN WATER TO ENTER UNDER THE WINDOW, WHERE THE ROOF LATCH IS. THERE IS A WAY FOR WATER TO ENTER THE TRUNK THERE. THIS WATER FINDS ITS WAY TO TWO TRUNK CAVITIES ON THE BOTTOM, AND THE WATER HAS NO PLACE TO EXIT. ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS THE SECURITY MODULE THAT CAN BE SATURATED THAT THE FOAM INSULATION, ACTUALLY CAN STORE THIS WATER AS A SPONGE. AND THE WATER CAN THEN CAUSE A PROBLEM IN THE SECURITY AREA. MODULE. LIGHTS COMING ON FLASHING AND SIRENS BLARING AY ALL KIND OF TIMES.. THAT THE BATTERY CAN ACTUALLY BE DISCHARGED LEAVING ONE STRANDED. HAD THE PROBLEM HAPPEN, HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK APART TO BAIL OUT WATER, QUITE A LOT, THERE IS NO EXIT HOLE FOR THE WATER TO LEAVE THAT IT BUILDS UP AROUND THE SECURITY MODULE AND THE FOAM AROUND IT, SOAKS UP WATER. THAT WHILE THE MODULE LOOKS GOOD, I SEEN A BURNED AREA AND SMELLED A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THERE WAS SO MUCH WATER IN THE FOAM THAT IT WEIGHT WAS REAL HEAVY. SOLUTION HAVE A DRAIN HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF BOTH TRUNK PITS, BELOW THE JACK. THAT A MATERIAL THAT DOES NOT ABSORB WATER BE USED. PLACE A COVER OVER THE MODULE TO WEATHERIZE IT.. WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE THAT A SOFT RUBBER SEAL SHOULD HAVE SEALED AROUND THE ROOF LATCH HOLE INSIDE THAT THE OUTSIDE IS OKAY UNTIL THE WINDOW SEAL LETS WATER IN. *TR

THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. SHE FURTHER STATED THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED OR THE PARTS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. Difficult time in posting it. Didn't want to use the whole site but only way I could put the numbers down. Remember the Squeaking Wheel? Took me a year but finally got my headlights replaced by dealer. This forum is good for informing each other but the Safety Bureau is the only one that has any real power.
