Default Air Intake Question

I spent most of last night admiring peoples engines and how good there intake systems looked. I want to insert new pipes and air filters on the end, similar to the below pictures. I don't have a clue what Size pipes/Air filters i am going to need. Can someone please help? I would like to know the lenght and diameter of the pipes and would a 3" Filter on the ends work?

Just to add: I want to run the air filters closed to the front of the Grill to get cooler air, I know there is problems having them next to a boiling engine

Thanks

It is generally agreed that a NeedsWings single CAI is appropriate for an N/A, however the dual ( DCAI ) looks much better ( and costs more too ).

The pipes are 3 ", I have a single NW CAI on my Roadster N/A, I run a K&N cone 3" neck x 6" x 3" filter just behind the grille.

One of the best looking ( and performing ) installations is the one by maxcichon - take a look at his gallery. He uses the enclosed inline filters.

Thanks for the reply. Very useful.... Atleast now I have some idea on where to start!

I did take a look at maxcichon Car and it's very impressive! I do notice many users are also going for the Blingy look thesedays!

The engine cover houses the filters.

So does anything need removing apart from the original air filter elements, does the original air box stay put??

The OEM engine cover/filters and the plastic tubes go on your wall as a trophy, you will have no engine cover with either of the NW CAI's, unless you can pick up one of the Mercedes covers like you will find here on the forum, I think onehundred80 listed some part numbers one time - search for it.
I am happy with leaving my engine naked.

I am looking at replacing the exiting black pipes with Alloy ones either side, is 45 degrees a good option. I aim to have the air filters on the end of these

If the filters end up behind the radiator, you are NOT doing yourself any favors. This is classified as a "HOT Air Intake".
