Oil. Why should I use

Why should I use Mobil1. Why 0w40, Why should I even use a motor oil in my engine that is approved by
MB.

No. I did not search but over the last 15 months have read almost every post.

Dollar General has a great price on oil.. be sure and let us know how that works out for you and feel free to post back your results. Guess somebody needs to risk their engine to break new grounds..

New Ground? I have about three gallons of maple syrup I can't eat... if I put that stuff in and take off for the Dragon - would THAT be "breaking new ground"? ;)

Re: Oil. Why should I use

Answer #1. The use of low cost oil is not a good Idea. OK. I accept that. Why not a SL oil with a viscosity appropriate for my environment?

I know Chrysler recommends using the Mobil 1 oil, im not sure why. I have used it as well. I would not recommend using the Dollar General Oil as some helpful Senior Member has suggested. I would just stick with what the manual recommends and you will be fine. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

Depends on how hard the ground is when the pistons and connecting rods come flying out.. you did pay attention to "risk your engine" did you not?

Never ran on maple syrup but did run a 260z mostly on water for a few miles. I guess maple syrup is out because of a jelling issue?

Na.. Just bring car up to extreme temperature and pour in slowly.. drain when stopping for more than 10 minutes and repeat as necessary..

Let's assume I use a name brand SL 0w40 synthetic (not blended.) What's my exposure? Would it void my warranty?

The way I see it. I'd rather spend 2 bucks a quart more and be sure my oil meets the MB specs. I get called cheap for buying 8.50 filters off Ebay instead of buying from the "source" here on the forum.. I can live with it just fine though.. LOL The way I see it there's cheap.. Dollar General Econo SynLube.. and then there's just frugal with a few bucks..

Actually, Chrysler dealerships are using Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W40 now.....it also is approved by MB 229.3 & 229.5. Very hard to find in retail stores.....

I stick with oils that meet the specs to maintain my Lifetime Powertrain Warranty.

I am 15 months and 5k miles since my last change and have 8qts 0w40 or 5w40 Quaker State synthetic ready to go in. Just waiting for the wrench to lite telling me the MB approved M1 has gone the distance.

Dollar General is not on my approved vendor list but I do patronize Dollar Tree.

Are you following the FSS for scheduling oil changes?

Can't remember a Castrol commercial. Got a Fiat commercial blocking all others.

Yes I do follow the FSS. And Dollar General is our only store here..short of the two gas stations. so it's at the top of the approved list.. Unless I'm in Tulsa..

No. I got distracted while reading your post because Nick Facebooked me about "taking the long way home".
