Default SRT or Normally Aspirated ???

Hi Gents, I've been the proud owner of an XF Coupe for about a year now, absolutely love it...

I've put Red-Stuff pads on it, 175 width tyres on the rear, loved it serviced it endlessly....

Now I want a little more urge from it...
I gutted the rear silencer, as per an article on these pages.... helped a bit...
Fitted K & N filters, de Hexed the air intake cover, removed the plastic screen, fitted some fancy plugs....

At 215HP for a 3.2 litre engine...... surely another 100 horses should come from a 3.2 sized engine ????
If you can tune 300HP from a 2 litre Subaru, why cannot we get more from this Crossfire Lump. ??

I've seen a remap available, but it only offers about 25HP more and is expensive for that..

In years past, a 2litre Ford Pinto Engine would simply be fitted with a different manifold and BIG carby and whoooosh - off you went...

Admittedly, she drives well and is a very quick thing on the roads of England... and such good fun..

Is there anything else that can be done to her for more urge ??, or simply get an SRT ??

Is the Supercharged version reliable ???
Is the extra HP worth the reliability risk or the extra money ???

If any one has an SRT or better still has owned BOTH variants, I'd be very interested in all opinions.
Thanks in Advance.
Grant B

I have had both cars, the black NA six speed from new and I put about 22,000 miles on it in six years. I had no trouble with the car and it was a garage queen. I liked it a lot.

A year ago I got the Aero Blue SRT, third owner, I missed the old NA for a while. Now I would not go back, I had to get new tyres as they were worn and noisy and fitted Koni adjustable shocks as the standard ride was too harsh for my old bones. The drive back from Florida (1,400 miles non stop) nearly killed me at times. It came with the Needswings CAI as well as the OEM intake, the OEM intake looks good but the CAI lets you hear the SC much more and I like that.

It is just as easy to ride around town in, on the highway it can fly. Only when you stab at the pedal do you see the difference between the two versions. I have not had it too long so I have no idea if it will cost more to upkeep. Gas mileage is probably 2/3 - 3/4 of the NA usage, you have to pay to play. Laying of the gas will make it better though, that's the tough part.

I liked the black paint, nothing like it when it was washed and polished, the Aero Blue is a treat, it takes a while for the dust to be seen.

I have owned. Both.
I modified and tuned the n/a. It was a great car.
There is not really a reasonable way to get the n/a to match the acceleration of the srt.
I now have a modified srt. There is a HUGE diffrence in acceleration.
There is lots of info here on the forum. Do lots of reading and make the decision that suits you best.
It comes down to what you want to get out of the car and what is important to you.

I think he's asking if It's possible to get around the 290+ mark on na after some mods
If I do recall some one on here said ~265 is maximum achievable HP out of the na with all the basic bolt ons
From what I've read personally the srt would be better , more power out the box , as many mods as the na , just as reliable
Only two downsides , with an sc you have another possible issue to worry about and you loose the beautiful auto rising spoiler

You have to add in the fun factor of the 6 speed, only available on the NA. I enjoy it even around town.

I drove the NA 6spd for 3 years. I maxed out the hp at about 265 and the acceration could be described as satisfying. The Sprint Booster definitely helped.
I would certainly love to have that car in my garage again. It had a great feel about it. I loved the shifting and it got lots of comments and looks from other drivers, however I would never trade my SRT for it. I've modded it to about 400 hp and it just never gets old. It takes my breath away every time I drive it. It's better than sex.

Grant, I have both and I wouldn't part with either. It's kinda like dating twins, they may look alike, but very different in their own way.

275/35/19 on the back, feels good? I want the Pilot Super sports in the rear 285/35/19 but they do not make them... thinking of 275/35/19, what is your verdict?
I went through a lot to get my customised SRT6. I had a N/A but changed it for a SRT6.

Sorry Beep, I have driven a LOT of fast cars, and if the SRT is better than sex you are either doing something wrong or need a new partner

I will continue to drive my NA 6 speed, and enjoy fabulous sex, best of both worlds

+1
As a N/A owner, that was the deal breaker for me...

regarding the manual transmission, just get paddles for the SRT6 and it is almost the same, but better.
