Default Misc. Ramblings...

I'm at work right now .....working the LAST SUNDAY I will ever work.....NY Eve will be the last shift I ever work !!!!!!!

My concern is that this place is 20 miles from where I live & close by is a BP station that sells a 93 octane premium that they claim is ETOH free. I've been using it for a little over a month &....sure appears HP & MPG (>26) are UP !!

I'm gonna try to test the fuel......on the internet you can find this method;

get a 100 ml graduated cylinder
put 10 ml H2O in
add 90 ml of the fuel
mix
let stand

If ETOH is present it will mix with the H2O & the line where the water was (interface) will increase.

Congrats on your retirement I'll be joining you on 1/2/13. Let us know the results of that test. I've been burning 89 octane in mine with no problems so far.

Sucks there's some states that are trying to increase fuels to E15. Ethanol is a great race gas but for daily uses it just burns up. I've noticed noticeable increases in mileage using straight gas, versus 10% Ethanol. And E85 is a joke for commercial vehicles. In the Air Force the Department of Energy mandated that any Government Owned Vehicle that can run a "biofuel" must be filled with it when available. So me and my supervisor drove 180 miles in a Dodge 1500 using E85 and got 9mpg! Standard gas would have easily gotten us 15mpg.

WOW, I've been lied to !!!!!

I tested the BP 93 & the test shows almost 10% ETOH.

Took a 10 ml test tube put in 1 ml water & marked the line. Added 9 more ml water and marked the line (magic marker). Drained the test tube & put in 1 ml water......this morning I added 9 ml of the 93 BP...capped the test tube ....shook it up....let it sit a few minutes......the interface line almost doubled from the 1 ml mark on the tube......so in that 9 ml of gas is almost 1 full ml of ETOH.

So in the KC area there are BP stations that have premiums labeled 91 92 or 93......I'll test the one on the Kansas side that's changed owners.....he had a 92 that he actually showed me the invoices for ....as pure gas.

I have to admit though, the car's been running like a striped-***-ape & getting > 25 mpg????????

H2O to the 1 ml line +9 ml gas.....shake.....& you can see the interface between the water & gas almost doubles.

Called the station they still swear their 93 has no ETOH.....but they promised to call their supplier "Carter" & talk to them about it...?

On my way to work I stopped in at the station, the guy had (since our phone call ) called Carter oil.....he now admits the gas has ETOH & Carter told him it's the BP stations with 91 octane fuel that are ETOH free. I'll test one of those stations tomorrow.

It would be nice if Kansas & Mo. would require disclosures on the pumps.

Despite what Carter oil told the guy at the 93 BP station.......I've now tested the premium at a 91 octane BP station......ETOH 5-10%.......I've been lied to again!

Last hope is the 92 station......

I wonder how many stations on this website actually have pure gas? Hmmmmmm.

Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Maybe they're all lying......

SUCCESS!!!!!! I found a BP station just off I-435 on State Line Road in Overland Park, Ks. They swore over the phone that their 91 was ETOH free. I just tested it & they were telling the truth!!!! Actually, it's on the Mo. side of the road. Price was $3.53 today which was 25 to 35 cents / gallon more expensive than the other BP stations that have ETOH in their premiums.

So, just in the greater Kansas City area there are at least 4 different BP premium formulations.......

A 93, a 92 & a 91 all with ETOH & now this 91 that is ETOH free. The "pure" being about 10% more expensive.

I think I've figured out what I'll do after I retire at the end of the month....& how to get rich!

Labs (like the hospital lab where I work) buy pure ETOH (reagent grade 200 proof) .....& pay over $250.00 per gallon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, since I've discovered how easy it is to separate the ETOH out of gasoline......just go buy 10 gallons of 10% ETOH fuel. Mix 1 gallon of water with it ......shake.....the ETOH mixes with the water & separates......pull off the top 9 gallons & use as pure fuel. You then are left with 2 gallons of 100 proof ETOH. Simple distillation .....to get the 1 gallon of pure ETOH........sell to labs for $253/ gallon.

Happy retirement. Think you need a different hobby. If I were thinking about distilling something, don't think it would be gas.

Ingenious! How do you fake the "reagent grade" certificate though? lol

Just perform/submit whatever testing is required by;

USP Spec
Ethyl Alcohol, 3, UN1170, PG II

That's what the $253.00 bottle says that I'm looking at right now at work.

Even with required testing & shipping costs.....there's gotta be at least $200/gal profit in this stuff.

Scored 20 gallons of PURE (no ETOH) 91 octane BP premium for 10.9 cents / gallon today.

My BP credit card has been doubling the "cents off / gallon" during the Thanksgiving & Christmas weeks. So, when I built up $1.76 cents /gallon (since I did the same thing at Thanksgiving) (max of 20 gallons).....at the pump this week......the pump price actually changes & you have to pay at least 10.9 cents /gallon. I take a 5 gallon jug with me so I can get the full 20 gallons allowed by the rules.

The true "pure" today was $3.579 / gallon......so it used $1.74 of my rebate / gallon & doubled it to $3.47 off the $3.579 regular price. SWEET!

Since there's only 96.5% as much energy in a gallon of 10% ETOH.......I'm thinking this is a way to gain 7.5 hp on a NA XF + about 1 mpg.
