Just wish I knew who they were when I am on the road so I can make sure to stay away from them.

Oh yea, have a Pleasurable, but "safe" holiday weekend
that's really why i posted my smart-a$$ remarks in the first place. don't much like the thought of a competition here to see who can post the highest speedometer reading. it's kinda like the stories about how the parents of the suicide find he was on line when he did it and people were goading him on.

yes, speed is a whole lot of fun but if you don't show it the proper respect then things go very bad - very fast.

Now that I have the Powerchip installed the speed limiter is supossed to be gone, I hope I can get to 165 MPH and take a pic there.

We're all adults in this forum and if some old farts think we're gonna start competing who will have the highest speed, then, they're all wrong. We are all aware that it's a dangerous and expensive stunt to do. It's just somebody else' testimony and either you like it or not he got what he wanted. Now, if you wanna do it, that's your choice, WE don't decide for you just because you belong in this forum.

I got a couple of pictures in my album of 85 and 110. I tried taking one at 130+, but I couldn't hold the camera steady for long enough, hence the picture of my jeans.

XF is very stable at 135, but uneven surface makes it difficult to take pictures. Solution - use passenger to take pictures, if you can find a willing participant.

Also, when considering what speed is safe you need to include the weather conditions, the density of traffic, and the location (i.e. in town centres vs motorway or autobahn), capability of the driver etc.. Its interesting to note that the Germans don't have many accidents on their unrestricted motorways, although when they do, they tend to be major.

Incidentally in 1992, I survived losing control (yes my fault) at 100ish spinning car round and somersaulting backwards end over end 3-4 times. Taught me a valuable lesson about mortality and driving carefully (not slowly). And fortunately, only I got injured. I will not be doing that again.

That stuff happens in the Detroit area all the time. A while back there were some street races and the cops were sitting the parking lot watching. One of the cars went out of control and killed a pedestrian. That one got press. Not all of them do. I don't remember what happened with the cops. Last I remember they got paid leave while the incident was under investigation.
