Okay:

To paint my interior I removed my center console, as well as my emergency brake handle cover. In doing so, my emergency brake light switch is laying around, although still connected and functioning. It is not attached or placed on anything, but simply lies on the floor where the console goes.

I say this because in putting my console back in place my emergency brake light in the dash is constantly on. When I push in the emergency brake light switch, the light goes off. Upon release the light goes back on, and so on.

Is the switch supposed to be attached to something so that when the emergency brake is depresed it in turns depresses the switch to let the car know the brake has been released?

Something is wrong because now even when I release the emergency brake the light in the dash stays on. The only thing I did was to remove the center console and pull the cover off of the brake handle. Can I get some guidance on this?

 

The parts manual is not much help past this diagram.
It shows #5 ( the switch ) goes on the parking brake somewhere

That diagram supports my notion that the switch must be afixed to the brake handle in a way that when the handle goes down the switch is depressed (pushed in). But how and where it is mounted is perplexing.

Just to give you an update. I studied your post and diagram a little more and went fishing around and saw exactly where the diagram was pointing me too. Actually got everything plugged back in and working correctly, thanks to you.

 

Do you guys know where to hook up the wire of a touch screen head unit on that parking brake switch? How do I get there? To the switch

If this is to make viewing of videos unless the handbrake is on, then if it is like mine it can be just attached to a ground and you can watch videos as you drive which is dangerous and not recommended. My wire was green.

 

I want to install it the safe way. No videos. Enough distraction on the road already and if someone purchases the car I don't want to be liable.

 

I am not advocating watching videos while you drive.
Just do not attach it and it will not work to show a video. What could be safer than that?

 

I know you weren't but you didn't pay attention to my original question. Anyway I figured it out. Under the center console the handbrake switch as two green wires. You can attach it to one of them.

 

I gave you the easiest way to hook up the wire, nothing more and nothing less.

 

I know it dont matter, but there is not an emergency brake in the car and NEVER was one in there.
It is a parking brake. It wont do crap for you in an emergency.

Sorry, but I worked for 10 years doing automotive research and development on brakes and friction materials and it bugs me....

i will now climb back under my rock, now that I have stress relieved....

I gave you the simplest solution as I said. At times what the OP wants is not necessarily the best solution and better and simpler answers are often given.

Are the wires green as earth wires on this car are brown? Only one of the wires is good to use as you want, connecting to the wrong one gives you the same result as my reply. But you know this.
