New '04 coupe owner. Would like comments about car's handling in snowy, slushy conditions and info on winter tires. Have autostick & Conti Touring tires. Thanks!

 

The Continentals are supposedly all-season, so they shouldn't be too terrible. I've got them on my '05 and eagerly await winter. I was going to purchase snow tires, but I decided not to unless it was absolutely necessary.

Hopefully between the traction control and maybe some sand in the back the car should handle alright.

 

Since you'll probably get snow in Michigan before I do in NY, let me know how you make out. The snow tires that are available run about $300-400 each per my dealer's service manager and I too, prefer not to go that route.

 

Contis are great in the wet...not so hot in the snow.
If it snows a lot there or does not melt off quickly, I'd go for a set of snow tires. We had a light snow winter in Denver, so I managed to get through most of the spring snow season on the Contis...but I would not face a normal winter here on them.

 

Michigan winters are so unpredictable, though, that with my luck I'd buy the snow tires and then it wouldn't even snow.

I got stuck last January when it snowed heavy here in England. I had to abandon the car in the middle of the road blocking traffic behind me.

 

Whoa Mark, those people behind you must have been pissssssed.

I drive the Crossfire all winter last year, well, I got it in January so after that I drove it.. It's not THAT bad, but I'm worried this year because I have to drive to work, rather than take public transportation. I think the key is to just avoid driving it in the snow if you can... if you know it's going to snow, when it starts, leave work early, get it home...

 

Found the perfect solution -- buying a used car that solves the problem of winter driving and exceeding lease miles. Don't want to get out of this car! Traded in a 02 Sebring Limited Convertible for Xfire and now looking for a '96 Sebring LXi coupe or Convertible JXi for $3250-$5250. I crave sun & moonshine so all problems solved!

 

Tsaxman - lay off my cupholder! I need a stinkin cupholder to drive 45 miles in the morning! And every time I hit the cup with my elbow or struggle to get the mug in the holder, I say, I don't need no stinkin cupholder !!!

 

I wouldn't have minded a cup holder... Cheap bastards probably saved 50 cents by not putting one in the base model.

Yep. I should have gotten an '04 Limited for the same price. Hindsight is always 20/20, I guess.
