well, unless.....after the snow falls..the temp gets just to freezing, then comes a heavy fog & misting then a real hard freeze. by morning you could drive the crossfire over the top of the 2-feet of snow...it's light...big snowshoe tires and the next thing you know, you're riding on top of the snow like a tobbogan. with a heater.

meanwhile...you yankees get some revenge when tonight and tomorrow night the temp drops to below freezing in houston. tomorow night into the 20's. went to the grocery tonight. i ain't goin out till spring...that should be in about a week.

Yea, winters in MI suck!! Especially if you have a convertable in the garage. The only time I don't mind it is when we take a few days off to go snowmobiling. We got some new sleds this year, so hopefully we'll have some time over the holidays. I'll post some pics, if we take any (and the camera doesn't freeze)

 

Yeah winter sucks it barely hit 70 here.

 

I believe that two feet in MI was up north. The Metro Detroit area probably has 3-4" at most. I'll say that I'm pleasantly surprised so far with the handling. Even on ice the Crossfire handles ok. I've found that turning off the traction control in some instances makes driving even easier. There are occasions where I'd want power going to the wheels even though they're slipping.

 

houstondan - no revenge here in the northeast with temp tonite predicted at 12 and a high tomorrow in the 20's (but I like the heated toboggan idea for the snow).
MI - so long as there's no snow (or rain) on the ground, my Xfire is on the road. It's got a fantastic heater for this lousy frigid weather. Granted, I'd rather do it "topless" but it would be a loooonnnng winter if I couldn't drive it at all.
dan root - we in New England and in the rest of northern North America are really in tears for you southern Californians who are deprived of the beauty of winter - and the ice and snow and slush and bitter cold. (lol).

When snow catches me at work I just leave Sparky where he sits. He does not like sleeping out especially when it is cold but he is a big boy now and can take it. I don't worry about leaving him overnight. Most joyriders and theives will be home roasting their chestnuts by an open fire.

On a side note, when I lived in Michigan for a while some people actually referred to me as Unc. You wouldn't be one those by any chance?

I live in Utah and we get some wicked snow storms here. I have not yet had any problems with my crossfire. You just have to know how to drive in the snow. I sure is fun though to turn off the ESP in parking lots and flip some mean brodies! I think your tires make a huge difference.

 

One thing I like about rear wheel drive cars is their ability to take square corners in the snow. My Xfire is the first rear wheel drive car I've had in years (but I don't intend to drive it in snow). Back then I was too poor to have two cars, in fact I was lucky to have one.

 

I live in Michigan - the U.P. (Upper Peninsula). We have about 6 inches of snow and I put my car away before they salted the roads. If you drive up here during the winter and don't wash your car every day it starts to rust. But if you were leasing I guess it wouldn't matter. I love my car too much to take the chance up here. Until you have driven on ice, in slush, with snow, there is nothing to compare it to.

Trapped here in Ohio with LOTS of Christmas shopping left to do...yesterday was my first experience on snow/ice. The Crossfire is a sled...was going 25 on a straight stretch of highway when I almost did a 360. Luckily I knew how to steer my way clear, but I immediately headed off the highway.

When I got home, it took me 40 minutes to get into the garage ... had to back in to use the rear wheel drive to pull be up the driveway.

Interesting experience since my CAR SALESMAN said that this car sits on a German body and the Germans know how to build a car to drive in snowy conditions. What was I thinking???? Believe a car salesman????

Luckily I live very close to work and I've got to get some snow tires on order ...$1K for a leased car. What a huge expense, but hopefully worth it. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON BRAND AND WHO TO ORDER FROM????

 

Many people are ordering from Tirerack.com. I think there is a Michelin snow tire that some are using for the Xfire but the TireRack people should be able to guide you.

I just bought the 17in wheels that are on closeout for 129 a piece. Sport edition something. And slaped on the blizzak lm22's 225/45/17's all the way around. Handling has definetely changed. but i was ripping through a few inches of snow no problem. Plus is doesnt look that bad. The wheels look great. I was thinking about going 18in but the price went up form 1100 for the whole set to like almost 1500. And this is a lease car, less money in it the better.

Mine is a lease too and I thought it might be cheaper to get a taxi everytime the roads are snowcovered..got to weigh out the $$$

 

just put my snows on today, after digging the car out of the drive way. i too went the 17" route, doesnt look too bad, alot better than having some steelies on there. also so you know you can get a set of wheels of ebay for around $350 shipped and just look on there for snow tires too. i got the entire setup for under $600. will post a picture of it this weekend. scott

 

The wheels look dang good, was actually gettin compliments on them. From a afar the back looks ok. Just i think it may need spacers in the back. The wheels kinda go in. Other than that its great. Figured it would be worth it and it is. I didnt even need any weight yet.
Definetely go with the blizzaks. I'll post some pix when i have some time. I was gunna wait to get the car washed but ill take em now, so you can get the true effect:-D
